Is there a way to order search results of plugins

  • Hi,

    Is there a way to order the returned search results when searching plugins either on the wordpress plugin site or from our own Add New plugin page in the dashboard.

    For example I would like to search for any plugins that can handle PHP.
    I put PHP into the search field and I get 250 pages of returned results which equates to approx 3000 plugins.

    The returned order is bewildering especially if you want to just return results that are only compatible with the installed wordpress version.
    Maybe I would like to just see the latest updated versions.

    If the WordPress team have refused in the past to add this simple functionality, then does anyone know of a 3rd party site or plugin that can have this functionality

    Search isn’t as trivial as you may think and no one refuses anything. It’s just not a simple problem to solve.

    Give this a read, it may help you with Google searching for plugins you may need.

    Of course it won’t be in your dashboard but it may help narrow down the search and provide you with better results.
