I’m bulk uploading JPEG images through ENVIRA GALLERY and it’s taking me 4-7 mins to fully upload and optimize them all. I’m uploading 15-20 images at once, all sized 455w X 683h. All images are resized and saved for web from photoshop. I also have a 5 sec delay on. It is possible to speed things up a bit? I plan on uploading hundred or maybe thousands of images through ENVIRA GALLERY and optimize them with EWWW, it’s gonna suck If I can’t speed things up a bit. Thanks for any help. Great plugin btw!

That is highly unusual for only 20 small jpgs to take that long unless you are being highly throttled by your webhost.

Those uploads will not be affected by the sleep/delay setting at all, it is only used in the bulk operations, and scheduled optimization functions.

I’ve never used envira, so I’m not sure what else could be going on, unless it is generating a whole pile of resizes for each images, like 20+. What I would do is upload one image, and then go over to the Bulk Optimize page and click Show Optimized Images to see how many images were processed during the upload. I’ve contacted Envira to see if they can be of any assistance as well.

Last thing, are you doing optimizations locally, or via the EWWW IO Cloud?

I just did a couple test uploads with Envira, and cannot replicate your problem. Here are a few things that could cause slower uploads:

    1. PNG images
    2. generating large numbers of resizes per image (Envira uses the Media Library to store uploads, so it also generates the same number of resizes as other images used in posts/pages)
    3. Increasing the optipng and/or pngout levels beyond the defaults of 2

Beyond that, I’m stumped, but I can take a look at your site if you like. You can contact me with login credentials at https://ewww.io

    Hi @nosilver4u

I did what you suggested, I uploaded one image and went to the “show optimized images” option. There were 5 different images of the same image I had just uploaded. All of them are sized differently! This is why its taking me a long time to upload and optimize my images. It’s also making my browser freeze a lot. Please tell me how I can stop this. Why are my images be replicated?

What do you mean by optimizing locally? I am resizing all my images and saving them for web through photo-shop cs6. I’m not sure what the EWWW IO Cloud is, so no, I’m not using it.

All my images are in JPG format, none are in png or gif or any other format.

My optipng and pngout options are set to default, I have not touched them at all.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could show me how to stop my images from being replicated. Thank You!!

I just went through the pages on “show optimized images” and every single image that I’ve uploaded has 5 or more duplicates! I really hope there is a fix for this.

    Hi @nosilver4u

I did some research, and found out that wordpress copies your images 3 times, one for thumbnail, one medium and one large. Also some themes copy images too. The theme I’m using (customizr) copies 3 images, 2 if you don’t use the slider. This is why all my images have 5 or more copies. I disabled the 3 images from wordpress by setting the sizes on them to 0 in the media settings. I’m going to get in contact with the devs of the theme and see if I can stop my images from being replicated if Im not going to use the features that the resized images are for. Thanks for your help. ??

4 resizes is nothing to get excited about, as 3 are generated by default with every single image to upload to a default WP install. The extra one is likely registered by your theme, or perhaps another plugin. When I say ‘large numbers of resizes’, I mean 15 or more (I’ve seen sites with 19).

Do you have any of the conversion options enabled? JPG to PNG perhaps?

But wouldn’t having the extra resized images on there use space on my sites server? If they do, and I don’t need the images since all my images are at a fixed width and height, why would I want to keep them? I did manage to turn off the default images that wordpress resizes. So now only 2 extra images are being replicated. No, I don’t have that option enabled. Only option enabled on the conversion tab is to “delete originals”.

Going to test upload 20 images to see if it takes less time to upload and optimize than before.

Just got done uploading the images. Before, it would take me 5-7 mins to upload and optimize my images (around 15-20), now it takes around 4 and half minutes to be done. It’s still a bit of time, but i guess its better than before. I’m still gonna get in contact with the theme developer and see if I can stop one of the two images being replicated for the theme. Thanks for your help, @nosilver4u!

that sounds like your server is seriously overloaded. I can do over 30 images, with 3 resizes each, in just over 1 minute on my server. Does your site seem slow otherwise?

Also, I think there are plugins that let you ‘deregister’ resizes that have been done by themes. You might also see if Simple Image Sizes has anything like that.

Wow, I wish I could do that many images in over a minute. Haven’t seen my site slowing down. For now I’m only test uploading images to my site because I’m not ready to have my site go live. So not much content is on there to really see if there’s an impact on site loading. Now I see that the problem was that my wordpress was duplicating images, it wasn’t your plugin’s fault. Thank you for your help, @nosilver4u!
