Hello and thank you for the plugin.

I am reading here that cloaking is not allowed by Amazon for their affiliate links.

Most probably I haven’t understood it correctly, but I’d like to be sure before I start adding/converting links in bulk.

Is there a way to use Amazon’s short links as Pretty Links? The reason I am asking is because if I use a cloaked URL, this goes against Amazon’s T&Cs.

Could you please clarify if a Pretty Link is the same as a Cloaked link?

Pardon the ignorance, just starting with this whole thing and there’s so much to take in I think I’m a bit confused.

    Thank you

    Hi @alexarium,

Thank you for reaching out. The word “cloak” has two different meanings in terms of affiliate marketing. The most common one is link shortening which is what Pretty Links does any time you create a new pretty link within the plugin. The other type is known as target URL masking, which is what our “Cloaked” redirect type offers. This type of redirect will hide the target URL from the visitor, which is generally prohibited by affiliate merchants such as Amazon.

However, the first type of cloaking (link shortening) is acceptable to use for your Amazon affiliate links as long as you’re compliant with their participation requirements. The main thing to ensure here is that it’s obvious to your users that they’re going to Amazon, so whenever you’re placing your pretty links on your site you’ll want to make sure the word “Amazon” is somewhere close to the text where the link is inserted.

For example, you could place your pretty link within some text such as “Buy on Amazon” and it’d be in compliance with their participation requirements.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
