• Hi,
I am currently working on my WordPress website and would like to add an automatic carousel that displays either text or images, sliding from one item to another without user input. I would greatly appreciate your guidance on how to achieve this functionality.

The carousel should automatically transition between different text or image items at a set interval, without requiring user interaction such as clicking or swiping. Ideally, the carousel would provide a smooth transition effect between items for a visually appealing display.

I have explored the available blocks or elements in the WordPress editor but have been unable to locate a native carousel feature.

Is there such an option in the Twenty Twenty-Three them?
    Thanks!
    Ram

    Hey @ramf ,

Things which are considered ‘functionality’ like a carousel would be separated from the theme (which is for display and appearance) – so there’s nothing specifically from the TwentyTwentyThree theme.

You are correct that there’s also no native Carousel blocks in the WordPress Editor – so your best option will be to have a look at the plugins that are available.

I can suggest checking this list out: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/search/carousel/

    Hi @jordesign
    Thanks for your help.
Sorry for confusing the Twenty Twenty-Three theme editor with the WordPress Editor / page builder.

Do you know if there is a plan to add to the WordPress Editor / page builder a carousel functionality?

    Thanks!

    Hi @ramf,

I would expect for us to have that on the WordPress Block Editor, as it would probably make more sense as a plugin.

Have you checked the plugins in this direction? Is there a specific reason that adding as a plugin would be an issue for you?

    Hi @foosantos
I’m trying to build my site with as little plugins as possible.

As far as I understand the idea with the WordPress Block Editor is that it aims to work similar to other external page builders such as elementor or WPBakery Page Builder etc – right?

As far as I know such an ?Automatic carousel is basic part of those page builders so in my opinion is should be part of the WordPress Block Editor without using external plugins.

    What do you think?

Well, yes and no. The idea is that the Block Editor will provide a basic (and standardised) framework but not necessarily all types of blocks. This will left for plugins authors.

I found several issues discussing the possibility of creating a “Slider” or “Post Carousel” block in the core of the WordPress Block Editor. If you feel strongly that this should be part of core, please do not hesitate to join the conversation there. In the meantime, going with a plugin is probably the easiest option.

Since this is not related to the Twenty Twenty-Three them (as @jordesign pointed out) I am going to mark the thread as resolved.
