Hi! First of all I want to thank you for your great plugin and your help with my other issue with Wordfence’s 2FA problem.

I would like to know if there’s any way to know what word (or words) triggers a Spam detection, because we had a false positive in a Forum Reply.

    Topic URL:

    spoiler-las-diferencias-de-blackwater-durante-el-tiempo

    Topic Subject:

[SPOILER] Las diferencias de Blackwater durante el tiempo.

    And the Log Report says:

    “Spam Word: Ad in subject”

But it’s a Reply what’s been detected, and the subject for all replies it’s almost the same:

Respuesta a: [SPOILER] Las diferencias de Blackwater durante el tiempo.

    Thank you for everything,
    best regards.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Under Stop Spammers > Block Lists > Spam Words List, you can see what’s currently being blocked and remove any words that are causing too many false positives.

I’m not seeing anything in the subject that matches with the default spam words though.

    1. Have you or anyone else on your team manually added additional spam words?

    2. Can I see the full body of the replies?

    Thanks

Hi! Yes I checked the list but I can’t find which word could be the one creating the conflict. And I can’t get the reply content, because the user got blocked, and the reply didn’t even get into the spam box on the Replies Section in WordPress’ Dashboard.

It blocked the user, and the reason was: “Spam Word: Ad in subject”. Couldn’t get any further info, that’s why I wanted to ask you about the issue.

Thank you very much for the support!

And no, we did not add any new words to the list when it happened, I forgot to answer that, sorry.

Are you sure that it’s a false positive? Remember, just because a user says they were blocked and asks for access doesn’t mean it’s not just a bot or human spammer.

Based on the topic, they’re discussing a movie/TV show called Blackwater?

    If it was this movie:

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7094562/

It’s very likely the trigger word was casino, gambling, poker, blackjack, or holdem.

You could temporarily empty the whole spam words list and then add them back as needed.

Yes I am sure, because he’s a friend of mine and told me. They were discussing about Blackwater, a city located on the game Red Dead Redemption 2. For what he told me, none of those words were on the reply, but I will check every word on the list and see if it might create conflicts.

As a feature for a next update, if you don’t mind me to suggest it, would be great to get more info about this kind of spam issues, like which words were the spam triggers, just to make sure everything works fine and don’t block legit content on the forums, and not to directly delete the spam, but to be able to decide wether it gets deleted or it goes to the spam box on Replies/Topics.

Thank you very much for the support on this, and I have another question that just came now.

Now yhe users when they log in on the index page, it does not work properly, and they have to go to another section just to get it working, do you know why could this be happening?

    Thank you for everything,
    best regards.

In that case, it’s almost certainly a gambling-related word. Gambling is a major component of Red Dead Redemption II.

    1. Try removing all gambling-related words.

    2. Just remove all spam words and then add back spam words as needed.

    3. To make a suggestion, please post here:

For help with unrelated issues, please start a new topic.

    Thanks

The drawback with the otherwise excellent programme is that there’s no White List provision.
For instance we have problems with two vehicle model names – Gamecock and Lincock. If the spam prevention is generic would deleting the word Penis then allow these words ?
    Regards

No, you would need to remove the word “cock” from the spam word list.

If you’ve already done this, they might be getting marked as spam for some other reason.

Bryan – I’m very grateful for your reply but I can’t find “cock” in the spam word list – that was my first thought !

Are you positive they’re getting blocked because of a spam word, or that was just a guess?

Can I get a link to the full topic, or can you copy and paste it, or screenshot it for full context please?

When I do a test post containing those words I get “Error your post cannot be created at this time.”
When the same post is recreated but using “gameclock” instead it posts without trouble.

Aah… this appears to be a bbPress issue.

Looks like they have built-in censored words and/or you’re possibly using an extra plugin that adds this feature.

OK Bryan – very grateful for your help. You’re confident its nothing you’re end.
