Hi, I’m trying to read up on how your features work. I checked your site but it just leads to the repo.

Can you let us know if you have written down explanations of what many of your features do, how they can be used, and when they should not be used?

For example on DNS prefetch, I can read about the general topic here: https://varvy.com/rel/dns-prefetch.html and elsewhere. And apparently, DNS prefetch is not always needed. And it can be selective. There are also formats for entering domains and resources for prefetching, as I’m reading (but may be wrong).

But I’m not entirely sure how your specific plugin wants to handle these things.

Another user reported that not including some external domains caused a break (not sure if that’s a legit plugin issue or the site itself).

Nonetheless, it would help to get some clarity about the features and how they are intended to work in your plugin.

With offloading GA, some of the sites I use need to have more specific tracking declarations. For example, when using the autotrack plugin. Where can these be entered? monster insights allows to not track multiple types of user roles, but yours only seems to allow non-tracking of admins. Overall, I’m curious how the GA script gets updated over time, when needed, if it’s sourced locally – does your plugin take care of this on version releases? With the removal of GA from WP Cron, is there a way or place to learn why you’d remove this, as opposed to setting the time fetch differently?

All this is to say that it would be helpful to have something to read about how each feature works.

Yes, googling is our job ?? But there can still be leftover questions even after doing some diligent reading.

    Questions could go on…

But it’s such an awesome plugin so thank you!

@joycegrace – This is my biggest gripe of this plugin. Documentation should come first or at the same time of a release. Jody appears to be working on it, but again this month, there are new features/settings that aren’t documented.

Please see my response re: the GA topic, I posted today.

    Hi
Yes, have started, https://optimisation.io/faq/ nothing new getting added to the plugin at all, I have the base ready now, so over the next week will be adding as much content as I can, once it is done, going forward should be just a case of maintaining it as we add something new

Again, apologies for the massive delay on this, but finally getting it done.

    Hi Jody! Thanks for this!

Sooo…I was reading this response: https://optimisation.io/knowledge-base/offload-ga-work/

And if you don’t mind, I would have some feedback. Right now, it doesn’t explain a lot to someone who has no idea what you’re talking about ??

Also, I’m not clear how the 2-hour refresh is useful, since I’m pretty sure that’s a default setting for the GA script? Only, it would not be local…

Anyway, it’s a bit confusing what the intent is for this, or the ‘why’ for why anyone would want to use the feature. Also, it’s not clear what you mean by “google stats” vs “analytics” and so on. That can be confusing. Maybe even just linking to articles about what those things are would help.

    And what are the “limitations”?

It also doesn’t answer the question of how you update the GA script when Google releases a new version. Is it included in the plugin updates?

You may have plans to answer all these questions.

I have so many more questions. Like when you select to compress images, and there are different options – does that affect your current images? Or just future ones? And what is the difference between the different levels of “automatic” compression? And do you need a paid account to get the compression? How is it different or better than Smushit (being the most popular image compressor for WP)?

I feel like right now, I’d have no idea if I want to set up a setting because it doesn’t say anywhere what that actually does after you click the button or set the setting.

I know you know this. Just giving some extra feedback and opinions you didn’t ask for ??

Anyway, it would be great to have the FAQs up as you go along! I think it would totally help your users see the benefit of this plugin!
