• So i moved my blog from .com to .org, and I have bought my domain through automattic – I had a request to send this over to my new host, Just Host.com

When i set the new site up, i had to enter a /<name> so now it’s wristband4festivals.com/home – rather than just wristband4festivals.com – which is absolutely useless to me, as all my current advertising is now pointing people to this page

I’m not really that tech savvy, so can some one just let me know if this is just a temporary issue, or if there’s something I can do to get my domain back.

    Thanks

See: Giving WordPress its Own Directory While Leaving Your Blog in the Root Directory

You can keep the blog in /home but have it ‘appear’ like it’s in the root ??

    # Move your WordPress core files to the new location (WordPress address).
    # Copy the index.php and .htaccess files from the WordPress directory into the root directory of your site (Blog address). The .htaccess file is invisible, so you may have to set your FTP client to show hidden files. If you are not using pretty permalinks, then you may not have a .htaccess file.

I’ve got this far – I don’t know how to move wordpress core files….

    please help ??

    shameless bump….

Don’t bump. Especially after about 5/6 minutes.

You don’t need to move the core files. They’re already in the subfolder — the example was https://example.com/wordpress and yours is wristband4festivals.com/home — See how that works?

    Move on to step 7.

COPY index.php and .htaccess from /home into / (this is done either by FTP or SSH). You do know how to log into your site via FTP/SSH right?

    absolutely not…

if you dont know how to ftp to your site, then contact your host and ask them for assistance doing so. OR google it.

You moved off wordpress.com — so the rules are changing. YOU need to adjust to the new rules, and start learning a few basic internet ‘things’. They wont change for you.

    sorry i thought was a help forum….

it IS a help forum, but you have to try to help yourself also.

    It’s a help forum for self-hosted WordPress.

Self means you. We expect you to know the basics or start learning them quick.

You’re going to need to know, and get comfortable with, FTP and/or SSH fast. Without it, you have next to no chance of pulling this off. Your host may have some help for you on learning about that. Good luck!

right so i have downloaded filezilla…. i think that i’ve copied the index over to my root file….

i have also tried to edit wp-config.php and yet i still can’t log on.

i really am trying, but desperately want help, if i could get it anywhere else, i would

hey, we are here.. we just cant go through the basics of stuff with everyone when that stuff is already elsewhere.

is there in an index.html or similar in your webroot directory? I see a placeholder page at the root of your domain.
