    Hi,

    I have just tried this, but it is not working with my theme, I am using classipress (appthemes.com)…It does install, but it just does not exclude the pages or posts. I think it’s a plugin releated issue as my theme has a feature to exclude pages and posts, but now it doesn’t work, so I thought I would try this one. Still no good.

    Thanks anyway.

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for providing me with more details. Could you please also tell me the version of Classipress? And list of other plugins you are using? Because it could be a conflict.
    I will debug the issue to find the reason.

    Best regards,
    Roman

    Hi,

    I am using Classipress version 3.31 (note this is not the latest)…I believe a 3rd party plugin is causing this issue called wplinktrade.

    When I first tried de-activating plugins, the only one that made it work after de-activating, was wplinktrade, but when I contacted that company, and gave them access to my wp-admin area (they requested), they emailed me a couple of days later and said they get the same search results either way, with or without the plugin activated which was all posts and pages were also being found if you do an ’empty search’, click search button only. I know the search was in fact working before I gave them access to my server. I am wondering if they messed with something, and screwed up the script somehow. I am going to re-install their plugin to see if that remedies the issue, but not likely, so I will let you know from there. I should be able to reply within a half hour or less from now to let you know what goes from this point.

    Thank you
    Brian

    Hi,

    Still no good…Oddly, I think this has to do with one of the plugin I have installed, but I can’t find it the ‘easy’ way by deactivating the plugins one at a time, so my guess is one of the first plugins I installed was changed/modified by one of the newer ones…I might be wrong, but it’s odd that the classipress ‘exclude page or posts’ feature does not work any longer when I installed the wplinktrade plugin, but when I deactivated the wplinktrade plugin, it went back to working, now when deactivated, it does not work…

    Hi,

    Have you found anything that might lead to the fix to this issue? I know it’s only been a couple of days and there are quite a few plugins to debug, but if you can resolve this, you don’t know how happy I will be, and I do need it.

    Thank you
    Brian

    Hi Brian,

    Yes, I found what is causing the issue.
    Classipress uses ‘posts_where’ filter to modify search query and use it’s own custom one. This makes SearchExclude functionality unreachable.
    Please see wp-content/themes/classipress/includes/theme-functions.php:1853 for more details.

    Ass a quick fix, you can just append following lines to the end of file wp-content/themes/classipress/functions.php

    add_filter( 'posts_where', 'search_exclude_where' );
    function search_exclude_where( $where ) {
    	global $wp_query;
    	if (!empty($wp_query->query_vars['post__not_in'])) {
    	 	$where = ' AND wp_posts.ID NOT IN (' . implode(',', $wp_query->query_vars['post__not_in']) . ') ' . $where;
    	}

    	return $where;
    }

    This will make SearchExclude work. However, I’m not sure of the impact on other plugins and setups, so I will have to investigate more before including the fix into plugin itself.

    Please try the fix and let me know if it worked for you.

    Thanks,
    Roman

    Hi Roman,

    Thank you so very much! This has in fact fixed my issue, I have only tested very minimal, meaning I don’t know if all is 100%, but it appears to work as you say, and I have noted that it does in fact exclude the post as pages as I desire. It only returns the classified ads on my website. I only have a couple of ads as I just started out, but your plugin does in fact work.

    Here’s the website: https://www.worldclassads.com

    Thank you so very much!
    Brian
