• Hi there,

I am very interested in using this plugin but it hasn’t been updated for a while.
Are you guys planning to maintain this plugin?

    Warm regards,
    Sebastian

It’s somewhat on the back burner as my main focus is on Autoptimize for now, but it’s still supported and updates will happen (I’d love to add CSP as means to stop non-whitelisted requests). I just don’t know when I’ll have time ??

If you’re into development yourself I’ll happily publish the project on GitHub so you can contribute?

    Thanks for the quick response!
    I just started using it.

And autoptimize is amazing. It helped me tremendously in my optimization effort for a client’s site just today. Amazing tool!!!

… oh, and I am not really that deep into plugin development, that I could contribute to this plugin. I am just writing very basic plugins and do a lot with themes otherwise.

Thanks for the offer to put it up on Github!

well, if you write basic plugins I could help you get started with WP donottrack, it’s not very complicated and I have some possible improvements on a to-do-list which I could explain ??

just let me know, I’ll be happy to mentor! :-))

    Hi Frank,

thanks for your response and sorry for the delay. I was a bit overwhelmed with work and other stuff lately.

I am actually interested to see how I can contribute to your plugins. I appreciate the work you do and it seems to be really good!

I won’t have many hours to put into this at the moment, so when thinking about myself contributing, it could only be a few hours over the next couple of weeks. I am in general interested to create long-term relationships and collaboration so there is a chance that this can grow from here.

    In short:
    How can we get started?
My email address is sebastian.schimpf at gmail dot com
Please feel free to get in touch with me and make a suggestion. I am also interested in finding someone who can assist me with some web development next year, maybe we can talk about that as well.

To give you a bit of an idea where I am at:
I have not used Github yet other than finding plugins and code. My skill level in regards of plugin development is very basic but I have been building websites for 16 years and since 2002 I have been working as a freelancer in web design and graphic design.

We can continue the conversation by email, if you wish to.

    Warm regards,
    Sebastian

OK, I created the repo on GitHub at https://github.com/futtta/wp-donottrack

    what you would do next:
    * create a github account
    * go to https://github.com/futtta/wp-donottrack
    * click “fork” in the top(ish) right of the page

at that point you have your own copy of wp donottrack at your disposal on github. any change you make (on github’s website or using git) will remain in your repository. now the way you interact with github depends on your OS, but e.g. on windows and mac there’s an official github client which can track changes in a local version and allows you to apply those changes to your github repo. on linux there are GUI’s as well, but you can also use the command line tools.

    so your homework:
    * do a git clone (git pull) of your github wp-donottrack repo to your local machine
    * have a look at wp donottracks code, try to understand the different ways it can try to stop tracking

let me know if you need more guidance or if you need more homework ??

    Great!
Thanks for the lead. I will start doing the homework and let you know when I have anything to share.
It may take a week or even two but it will happen.

I am right now fighting with a huge DB on Godaddy and need to convince my client once and for all to move to a better hosting solution. ??

I am looking forward to have time to get into the github thing. I think it is about time.
