Works fine for me, except that I can’t set custom features images.

this could be a really good plugin. Why is it so difficult.
Do the thumbnails work better with a different theme?

The thumbnails are displayed wherever the WordPress function the_post_thumbnail is used. To disable them change line 31 of /core/video.php from:

add_filter('post_thumbnail_html','WP_ayvpp_thumbnail');

to:

//add_filter('post_thumbnail_html','WP_ayvpp_thumbnail');
