A client that I have been working with has indicated they would like a website set up similar to this one with a sliding panel for the content of the site https://www.eljinconstruction.com/home.html. They also would like a blog, which is why I wanted to create their site with WordPress. Would it be possible to do something similar to what is on that page with a WordPress theme?

i’m sure you can find a theme that does that or something similar, there are tens of thousands out there. wordpress can do what you’re after but i’d do some extensive reading around the subject before diving in to save yourself a lot of headaches in the future.

Thanks, Jack. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction so I wouldn’t have to do hours and hours of research only to have the client say, “Nevvermind”. You know how that goes.

for sure. there are hundreds of themes, both free and commercial, that do what you want but it’s a personal choice in terms of aesthetics; what i think is awesome and perfect for the job might be completely different to you and your client.

time to put the coffee and let google be your guide! ??

Most sliders can be done via theme or plugin with relative ease. However, when looking at the sample site, I don’t know of either that easily enables a slider to present full-page content.

That said, before you perform extensive due diligence on making this work, I personally believe there are many usability issues with the concept. Here are just a few of my initial thoughts:
    – The illusion of horizontal scroll combined with necessary vertical scroll for smaller screens can be confusing
    – It’s not mobile/tablet friendly
    – Navigation is not intuitive

There are actually many non-scroll related usability issues as well but I’ll keep those to myself since it’s off-topic. ??

Thanks Gabe, for pointing out what I felt my client needed to know as well…I’m not OVERLY impressed with a number of the “features” (for lack of a better word) on this site overall. I will certainly point those out to her, and hope she decides to go in a different direction.
