    Hi everyone,

Everywhere i read about wordpress coding template says: if wordpress doesn’t find any template page like customposttype-archive.php or taxonomy-customname.php its returns index.php theoretical… But in real world example if i don’t create custom page template the wordpress doesn’t return index.php its return 404 error… why ?

Another issue is i type sitename.com/products-categories/category1 but wordpress go sitename.com/products/product1 … i am very confuse :S

  • For the first issue… Template pages are not pages on your site. They have got the naming wrong in the codes. It should say “template files” not pages. What it means is that for a page that you have actually created on the site, it looks through the template heirachcy. It doesn’t mean that if you go to a page on your site that isn’t there it will show something different. Thats what the 404 page is for, and it’s working correctly.

For the second issue… Reset your permalinks by going into your admin area, setting the permalinks back to ‘Default’ and saving them, then set them back to what you want them to be and save them again.
