• I am in the process of tranferring some data from my old site to wordpress to use as a cms.
My point concerns google. My wordpress is one month old and yet in there are different results from different search engines. ie
Yahoo “atypical tb” rated number 2 and three
Google “atypical tb” not in first hundred although my now almost empty page from old site https://www.tbandu.co.uk is rated number three.

Most of my other pages in my old site were and are still rated in the top 10 in google and yahoo and yet my wordpress site does not seem to be doing as well.

I receive up to 150 visitors a day but most are redirected from the empty pages of my site or from Yahoo very few actually arrive directly via google.
I have used plugins to ensure every page and post has keywords and meta tags in place and use google site maps. Im I being impatient or is there something more I could do?
    Thankx

  • I manage a blog with in average 15-20 000 unique visitors per day (it’s adult content, no surprise here), and for me too, Yahoo likes my blog much more than google does. In terms of backlinks counted (over 3000 for yahoo, ten times less for google), and in terms of incoming traffic yahoo brings almost as many hits as google, whereas google is supposed to represent 90% of the SE traffic.

Maybe google simply doesn’t like wordpress structure, even when it’s carefully tuned.

Now, some themes are very bad concerning SEO and it’s possible that google “punishes” you more than yahoo. Some themes allow more than one <h1> tag for instance, or include many redundant “home” links, etcetera. You could check for that.

hmm…. thx for replying, food 4 thought there. Perhaps I should migrate back to my home built, not good looking, hard to upkeep, but at least front page google site.
    Thx again
