Hello,

Can anyone please help me out with this: I am the administrator of two websites; both more or less the same (content differs of course), working on WP version 4.8.2 both. But when I want to add a new user and select his/her role, the role lists are different on the websites. For example on one website, I have the option ‘Web Designer'(which is very useful to me) but on my other website only the default roles (Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor and Subscriber) are shown.

Does anyone know how this is possible? And what I can do about it?

Both of your sites are not the same. Install the theme or plugin that enables the web designer role, on the one without it. Adding a new role to WordPress is pretty simple, adding/modifying the capabilities is where it gets a little trickier.

hello,
Web designer is not a default role in WordPress.
Either your theme author create this role or it may cause any of your plugin, if you didn’t create this.
You can add more role in your WordPress.

I am sorry I see you already answered it’s not a very difficult thing to do.
But I am afraid just adding a role won’t do because the new user has to be able to make adjustments to html etcetera, but I don’t want to authorize him as administrator.

I just mistake. Web Designer is not default. I update my previous comment.
Don’t allow any one to administrator. You only can manage this user selection process, if you are admin. otherwise no can manage this process.
