• This question is addressed to people who play with WordPress frequently, so, please answer only if you know what are you talking about. I know the old wp saying that if you want to be safe be updated, no need to repeat it once again here. Ok. lets go to the point.
I still use WordPress 2.0.11 on some of my sites and I think about using it for some of my new sites. 2.0.11 is fast, simple and there are plugins and hacks that are no available for new releases. My question is are there any known vulnerabilities of 2.0.11 yet? I haven’t been playing with WordPress since about 6 months so my knowledge is not up to date. Thank you in advance for any answers.

We could cite release notes to list all of your current security vulnerabilities, but I think this sums it up nicely:

I’m disappointed that we weren’t able to keep the [2.0.x] branch maintained until 2010, but since one of the big reasons for that failure was the massive scope of our security improvements for the newer versions of WordPress, 2.0.x doesn’t die in vain!

Due to the changing nature of web security and attacks, the safest most secure version of WordPress will always be the current stable release.

Ok. That’s the answer I wanted to hear. Thank you. I will check out new releases and decide which way to go. Well, for some websites I use newer versions like 2.7.x I think I had no problems yet nor spam because my websites are in every case extraordinary secured but I’m aware that even best security improvements may eventually fail.

You still may want to rethink your security if you are running 2.7 or 2.8 versions anywhere else. It’s possible that you have just been very fortunate to this point.

“This is an archive of every release we’ve done that we have a record of.

None of these are safe to use, except the latest in the 2.9 series, which is actively maintained.”

    Just food for thought.
