I am the administrative assistant for a fledgling company whose product is the sale of personalized mp3 downloads. We are expanding to offer generic mp3 downloads for individual purchase, as well as a subscription service that will offer mp3 downloads of audio series and stand alone stories. I am looking for open source software to help build a website making it possible for one-click purchase of stories or a monthly subscription possible.

My current view of website needs:
a front page, requiring viewers to affirm they are of legal age to continue
pages that are open to visitors not signed in, but only after affirming legal age on the front page
pages that are only available to subscribers
pages that are only available to paid subscribers
a secure storage area for files (primarily .mp3 or other audio) to be downloaded from either same site pages, or with individual link and password.
The ability for site owners to send newsletters to either/both the paid and non-paid subscribers

    Other applicable points:
    current site host is https://www.HostGator.Com
    current payment broker is https://www.AlertPay.com
current product delivery is done by email with a https://www.SendSpace.com link and password
for generic and subscription stories, this needs to be move to the website, with secure (hidden) storage of the mp3’s
PayPal will not work with our business.
I would like to build and test run before replacing current webpages.

I have been searching for information on which open source management systems will help our specific needs. Several testimonials I read made me believe that WordPress would work for our needs (and there is a WordPress host function at HostGator), but on direct examination, it seems to be more of a blog management. It still may be what I need, but I can not find documentation that states it can do what we need, so I am asking for help in forum so knowledgeable users can help with the discovery process. Any such help (or advice on HOW to achieve the goals above) is greatly appreciated.

Sure, you can do that with a static front page, a page template for that page, and maybe a plugin or two for the ‘are you 18?’

pages that are only available to subscribers

    Yep. Look into Membership Plugins.

pages that are only available to paid subscribers

Again, yep. Same kind of plugins.

Yes, with a plugin. I don’t know of them off hand, but I know they exist.

The ability for site owners to send newsletters to either/both the paid and non-paid subscribers

    Yes ?? Pluuuuugins.
