• I would like to setup WordPress sites for about 25 students. In the past I uploaded 25 copies of wordpress installations, and made databases for each student.

I was wondering if WordPress MS would be a better solution. I looked through how to set one up and it looks like a decent amount of work, maybe more than what I’m doing.

I plan on doing this next semester too and possibly years down the road. Which WordPress install would fit my situation better:
    Wordpress MS or WordPress

    Thanks

Yes, in fact, there’s a fellow who’s doing that right now!

You can even use a replicator plugin to duplicate sites from a template.

    Thanks.

Would I be able to add one student to one multi-site?

Would each student have the same control over the site like they would if I installed a regular WordPress site for them? Like would they be able to change the theme for themselves or would they have to ask me to change it? Can they install their own plugins without having to ask me to do anything? I just want them to have total control.

They would have about 90% of the control. They would NOT be able to install themes and plugins, but they would be able to use any you installed.

Thanks. That’s what I needed to know. Now I can start installing 25 WordPress sites.

@tazboy, just make sure you understand the implications

The reason WP MS doesn’t allow users to install their own themes and plugins is security

If you give each student a full WP install, it is very easy for them to make a little edit to a theme/plugin/ whatever file and take control of your server to do whatever they wish. From deleting/defacing all the sites, and so on

As long as you understand that, and trust them, coolio!
