• I just installed b2 a little while ago and noticed their site links yours. Just wondering if wordpress is the next version kinda for b2 or if they stopped making b2?
    And what are the differences?
    Thanks….

  • rYno,
    From the ABOUT page:

WordPress was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal publishing system built on PHP and MySQL and licensed under the GPL. It is the official successor of b2/cafelog. WordPress is fresh software, but its roots and development go back to 2001. It is a mature and stable product. We hope by focusing on web standards and user experience we can create a tool different from anything else out there.

I can’t speak to the differences, since I have never run a b2-powered site.

disclaimer… i am neither related to b2 or wp development team…
I guess since michel_v is himself using wp for his new blog, u can consider wp to be a worthy successor… ??

    Hi,Sushubh,
I’d be curious to see michel_v’s current weblog. Where is it?

I have run a b2 site. In fact I ran b2 on my sites for almost a year before Word Press came along. It was extremely similiar in the beginning, but now all that is the same is how it’s coded with PHP and how some of the directories are laid out. Matt, Mike and the others on the development team have made great strides since last summer with WP.

Well i did read that front page but i guess i didnt describe my question good enough.
Basically was just wondering if b2 is still continuing with developement or if WP has taken over completely.
I like that WP has friendly URLS and that alone is a helpful addition. Gotta love the mod_rewrite capabilities.
Going to upgrade my b2 and see what happens.
    thanks

the b2 development project is still continuing i think, under a group of other programmers. it’s called b2-evolution, and its down right now https://b2evolution.net/

When development stopped on b2 a couple of different groups started hacking on the code and b2evo was one of them, however WordPress was eventually named by Michel – the original developer of b2 – as the official successor. I believe Michel now makes occasional contributions to the WordPress effort and b2 is dead, but it was good while it lasted ??

No further development is being done on b2, except when there are security holes.
In that case we make a fixed version and release it, but that’s only in case you are still running b2. It’s not by any means adding any features or other non-critical fixes.

    Hi, michel v,
Thanks for your original work. It’s grown wings. Always a good sign.
I have a suggestion for you. On the b2 site, you list your website as cafelog. If your visitor is viewing your page there, your visitor is already on the cafelog site. Why not list your page there as your new weblog at intraordinary.com?
    Just an idea.
