• Hi Forum,
I need you help please. I installed WP 3.5.1 on my laptop for training and dev. I then installed Polylang 1.0.4 and successfully added EN and Icelandic languages for a bilingual WP site.
Everything was working fine till I found out string translation was not working properly. I then learned that the on-development 1.1 version had fixes and I then removed Polylang 1.0.4 and installed 1.1.
I added English which was OK. I then added Icelandic and got an error message informing that the languages files could not be downloaded. I tried to download these files manually from https://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-i18n/ (wordpress-i18n – Revision 21535)
I checked /is_IS folder and noticed it contains an incomplete tree of subfolders and no files in any subfolders.
I checked other language folders such as es_ES/ and notice the subfolders and files are all there. I then added es_ES on my WP server and that completed successfully.
Can the /is_IS folder be fixed?
    thanks !!!!!

  • There are unfortunately two places to find WordPress tranlations files. And currently Polylang looks only at https://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-i18n/

You can download manually is_IS translation files from https://translate.www.ads-software.com/

    Thanks for your instructions.
From https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp/3.5.x I exported all .mo I believe were necessary but I have some doubts and I wonder if you or other members could send me answers.
First of all, I did not have a list of the language files I would need, so I added pt_BR as a new language and checked all .mo automatically downloaded by Polylang. These files were:
    Folder Language file
    \wp-content\languages
    admin-pt_BR.mo
    admin-network-pt_BR.mo
    continent-cities-pt_BR.mo
    pt_BR.mo
    ms-pt_BR.mo
    \wp-content\plugins\contact-form-7\languages
    wpcf7-pt_BR.mo
    \wp-content\themes\responsive\languages
    pt_BR.mo
    \wp-content\themes\twentyeleven\languages
    pt_BR.mo
    \wp-content\themes\twentytwelve\languages
    pt_BR.mo

The first difficulty I found is that the export feature allows different formats for the exported files. So, I needed to ensure “mo” was always selected for each export.

Another issue was the name of the exported files. I had to manually rename each downloaded file. For instance, admin language file was exported as “wp-3.5.x-admin-is.mo” and renamed to “admin-is_IS.mo”. Another example, exported file “wp-3.5.x-cc-is.mo” was renamed to “continent-cities-is_IS.mo”.

Also, Polylang automatically downloaded the following files:
    a) ms-pt_BR – I could not find under https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp/3.5.x
    b) wpcf7-pt_BR.mo – it exists somewhere but I could not find contact form 7 sub project under https://translate.www.ads-software.com/projects/wp-plugins.
    c) pt_BR.mo – it exists somewhere for Responsive theme but I could not find it anywhere in any sub project.
Would you know where I could download these files from? Would anyone have a copy of these files for is_IS?
    Thanks!!!!
