    Hi folks,

Not sure if this is the right place to be posting, so I apologise if it isn’t.

After the Heartbleed issue was revealed, I used the ‘Bulk Password Reset’ plugin to reset all of my user’s passwords. Now, only a few administrators (but not all of them) can log into the admin CP area, and all my non-admin users can’t log into the member area, despite them all using the new passwords they were assigned by that plugin. Further, new members who sign up to the website (i.e. those who joined after the plugin was used to reset passwords) also can’t log into their accounts.

I posted on the plugin’s sub-forum for help but didn’t get a response, unfortunately. I’m uncertain if this is an issue with that plugin specifically, or something else.

Specifically, when they attempt to log in, users are met with a ‘403 Permission Denied’ error.

I have absolutely no idea where to even begin to try to troubleshoot this issue, but I would appreciate any help anyone could give, please.

    Any ideas, please?

    Thanks in advance. ??
    Dave

  • Have you since removed the ‘Bulk Password Reset’ plugin?

If a user resets their password (using the ‘Forgotten’ link on the login page) does that then work?

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to respond and help. ??

Yes, I removed the plugin, and despite using the forgotten password reset and manually changing user passwords via the Admin CP, users still can’t get access.

    Ta,
    Dave

What details do you need, specifically?

when they attempt to log in, users are met with a ‘403 Permission Denied’ error.

We needed to confirm that the error/issue was still the same as it was when the plugin was installed. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Ok, thanks for those pointers. I’ll give them a go and will report back in a few days. ??

    Thanks!

Ok, thanks, Esmi – I disabled a bunch of plugins and everyone’s now back and able to log in. I was able to re-enable all the old plugins and – so far – everything is still working hunky dory.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it immensely. ??
