Issue removing wordpress footer

I’ve created a wordpress site https://www.epicbooks.ca
My issue is with removing the “proudly supported by wordpress” in the footer. I’ve looked over past threads and followed those answers but when I do the white background gets cut down. I was able to replace the text with a period, you can see it in the bottom left corner and that’s as close as I can get to not having it and keeping the white background.

Any help would be appreciated.
