Issue: Subcategories permalink

    Hello,

    I have followed the conversion instructions from Yoast SEO to SEO Framework, however, when using Yoast SEO I have category/sub-category/postname working, but with SEO Framework, the permalink changes to category/postname, which will result in a series of issues since the site in question, its a press media with categories and sub-categories organized as magazine pages.

    I would like to know how to prevent the sub-categories from vanishing, relating to the permalink structure we have been using for more than five years now. Also, besides this, I did not find any redirect option to import those we had setup over Yoast, individually other than re-adding manually post by post.

    Hi Alex,

    For as I can recall, the redirect option from Yoast is a premium feature; so I think that the SEO Data Transporter doesn’t catch that one.

    About adding subcategories to category links, you’d have to assign the following custom permalink structure at “Settings -> Permalinks”:

    /%category%/%postname%/

    Also, the post must only be assigned to the sub-category for the URL to add its complete parent and child structure.
    This does allow posts to show up in the parents category archives as well.

    A more advanced way of handling permalinks isn’t supported in The SEO Framework. This should be done with an external plugin.

    Hello Sybre,

    Indeed, this is a Yoast Pro feature, nevertheless, I managed to get the permalinks to use subcategories by assigning the posts to the subcategories intended and not to Main Category > Subcategory. The permalink structure remains the same, however, when clicking in the menu, let us say, Blog (Main Category) > GothBleak (Subcategory), it returns a 404 page on both links and not the posts as it should.

    The redirect feature I believe, should be automatic and not a manual input as it is now, also having it accessible in a full display, instead of individually per post, might ease the workflow of many of us.

    Hi Alex,

    Be sure that your menu items aren’t “hard links”, so they use the WordPress default pages (then they use ID’s, and WordPress Rewrite will take over). This ensures no 404 errors occur.

    If this is still an issue, be sure to contact your theme’s author or even the WordPress support forums.
    The SEO Framework doesn’t (and will not ever) alter the permalink structure (aside from adding the sitemap), for as you’re already noticing: it’s quite fragile.

    Could you elaborate on making the redirect feature “automatic”? Do you mean that you wish to see an overview of SEO settings for all pages (i.e. quick edit)?
