• I upgraded my WP to 3.2.1…all of my plugins are gone and my theme is gone. Where should I start? My site doesn’t appear now. I can get into the dashboard and see all my pages/posts…

  • Did you make a pre-upgrade database backup?

Yes, I did and I put this back up for now…but I want to upgrade to the latest WP.

So – what version of WP are you currently running?

    3.1.1

Have you deactivated all plugins and switched to the Twenty Ten theme?

    Before the upgrade?

When I went to the dashboard after the upgrade there weren’t any themes displayed even though I can see them via FTP in the plugins folder.

No – now. You have restored your old database and re-uploaded WordPress 3.1.1, yes?

No…I’ve restored the old db and re-uploaded WP 3.1.1. I can’t try this again right now…will have to do it tonight when traffic is low on the site.

Should I do a manual upgrade? I did auto. Any other suggestions? My theme is Pagelines-PlatformPro

A manual upgrade – although trickier – can sometimes be safer than an auto-upgrade. especially if there’s a high load on your server at the time of the upgrade. all it takes is for one file to become corrupted or missed during the auto-transfer and the whole upgrade can collapse.

To increase the odds of success, always switch back to the default theme and deactivate all plugins before beginning the upgrade process (manual or auto). Some themes & plugins can interfere with the upgrade.
