• Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

Since a plugin by BeRocket was updated, it has started showing adverts within its block (where the name of the plugin is) in the WordPress admin. There is no way to dismiss it. And it is both distracting also ruining the aesthetics of WordPress

At the moment it shows the word sale.

Is this developer breaking the rules of development?

    Thanks

As far as I can see, the plugin(s) are not provided through www.ads-software.com.

You’re using a commercial/premium plugin, so please use their official support channel. We feel they are best equipped to support their products.

Commercial products are not supported in these forums.

    Steve,

    Thank you.

However, it was a free plugin from the WordPress site and the developer is not responding to forum posts on the free plugin support section for the plugin on the WordPress site.

Not sure you should have these types of plugin developers offering free plugins to simply gain access to promote premium versions.

    Thanks anyway.

    Found it… https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/odd-image-next-to-berocket-name/

That plugin does not, as far as I can see, violate wp.org plugin guidelines. Developers are not required to provide support, but it seems that dev stops by from time to time. If you’re not getting the support you want, “vote with your feet” and find another plugin.

    Steve,

Thanks, the only issue with the plugin is the developers use it to advertise as per the image. They may be rubbish at support but that does not bother us what bothers us the intrusion into the admin area of the website. It appears to change from some weird image to a flash ‘sale’ badge trying to promote a premium version of the plugin.

The only way forward is to delete WordPress because we are getting perplexed with the large amount of plugins that do the same.
Advertising as per the image in the link or the large red highlighted plugin names within the admin menu distracts from a good application such as WordPress.

Allowing developers to continue with this practice also reduces trust in the WordPress application thus pushing people, including ourselves, away from WordPress or having something developed in place of WordPress.

    Thanks
