Issue with CPT UI and Thesis

    When using Thesis, every 5th custom post type does not show in the WP Dashboard (and only the 5th). When activating another theme, the missing custom post type shows up again. Existing data is still there, this issue has no effect on the front end. I just need to temporary disable Thesis to be able to add/edit the 5th custom post type.

    I have just set up a vanilla WordPress test site with theme unit test data, CPT UI plugin and Thesis (latest WP 5.01, CPT UI 1.6.1, Classic Editor) and believe I can rule any other possible factors; there must be some interaction between Thesis and CPT UI. Note also that this issue can be reproduced in different hosting environments.

    Any idea what could possibly cause this behaviour? I can give you access to the testing site.

    I also asked the maker of Thesis to look into this but he is too busy at the moment.

    For what it’s worth, previous solutions were just regarding the priority and which things get registered first vs last.

    I am curious if you have custom menu positions specified for your post types, or if you just left those spots as null/default. As odd as it may sound, those matching up can cause menu items to go missing in the admin menu, because they’re overwritten, so to speak.

    No, I did not specify custom menu positions, left them null/default.
    Do you think that assigning custom menu positions might resolve this issue ?

    It may, but I can’t guarantee any results with that. It was more coming from the angle of if you did, to remove those so that WP could just append them in what I’ll call “natural order” based on the order added. Beyond that, I really don’t have any immediate ideas, and I don’t have thesis available to try out even with a local barebones install. Closest would be the access you mention, but that would mostly be me reviewing settings used for your post types. We don’t do anything special in regards to menu items, for what it’s worth.

    The workaround is to assign custom menu positions.
    I assigned my 6 custom post types menu positions 90 -95 and they now all show up below Settings

    Definitely *a* workaround for sure. Still a bit curious why they weren’t in the first place, but at the same time, I’m happy they’re showing up at all.
