issue with customizer navigating preview frame to another page

  • My setup: i have a “home” page instead of blog posts, and that page has a different template.

    My issue: when i use the customizer to add CSS, I can’t navigate to /blog/ (or any of the links) from the default home page. The pointer icon is a square with an exclamation point, and the link has a class of “customize-unpreviewable”. Hovering over the link for /blog/ shows the correct URL in the browser status area, but clicking on it does nothing at all.

    So to sum up, i can’t preview any other pages in the customizer other than the home page.

    I cannot replicate your experience on my site, so I suspect there may be a JavaScript error preventing proper behavior. Check your browser console for any error messages. The nature of the error may point to the root cause.

    The issue is likely due to a problem with your theme or a plugin. To identify the culprit, deactivate all plugins and switch to a default twenty* theme. You should now get expected behavior. Restore your theme and plugins, one at a time, until the problem recurs. The last activated module would be the cause.

    Those are of course excellent ideas. Unfortunately, I have done all of the above without any difference. I switched to the 2023 default theme, and deactivated every single plugin, and it still behaves this way. The console (and i’m no expert) doesn’t really point me anywhere either. I’m at a loss. The only thing different about that page is it uses its own template, which of course wouldn’t have been the case using the latest default theme.

    When I cannot replicate an issue with WP while it’s in its “plain vanilla” mode, I’m at a loss too. It can happen one or some core WP files have become corrupted for some reason. Sometimes a core update fails to properly complete for example. It’s a long shot, but you might try performing a manual “update”. It may be to the same version, the point is to refresh all the core files from a fresh .zip download.
