I have changed the description, permalinks, meta tags, meta description, used SEO plugins (currently using WordPress SEO by yoast) and I can’t get my google snippet to change.

Not sure what to do here. I’ve requested a deletion of the cached page from google, but they keep denying it. I tried clearing my cache as well, but no luck.

Do changes to the site description take time? It’s been about a day.

  • Hi Drahcirness,

if you have changed the data on your site, the changes won’t take effect immediately at Google. It can take a while until the changes for the snippet will be displayed in the search results.

If you are registered for the Google Webmaster Tools, you can try to submit the url again, this might help.

Well, I let it sit for a while and some new things have happened…

    1) Now the title shows: My ServicesMy Services
And the description shows the text from the home page rather than the info I submitted.

    2) A google search shows the home page, but now also shows the services page and the about us page, both with the description I wanted the home page to display. They each have their own description they’re supposed to be displaying…

    3) None of the keywords I entered lead me to my page when I google search. I have to search for the exact site domain or it gives me results for everything BUT my page. Should I scrap meta keywords all together?

    Definitely confused…

    Hi Drahcirness,

Well, I let it sit for a while and some new things have happened…

One day is nothing in the world of Google. It can take several days and sometimes weeks until your site is indexed properly and ranks in the search results.

1.) You should check the settings of the plugin and the site title which is shown in the tab of your browser and see if your site title is displayed properly there and if not, correct it. Regarding the description, there is no guarantee that Google will show the meta description which you have provided, Google may show something else based on the search terms.

2.) Google will show what Google think it’s the best search result for the user. But if all sites are shown with the same description, you should check which meta description for the sites you have added in the plugin.

3.) It can take a whil until your site ranks well in the search results. If it was that easy everyone would rank on page 1… ?? You should provide high quality content on your site and see that you get some backlinks, that will help to rank better. You may want to read some SEO tutorials (just Google a bit – there are tons of tutorials out there), that’s good to get a first overview of what you can do and what you shouldn’t.

Btw. if you have trouble setting up your plugin, you might want to open a thread in the support forum for the plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo
