Hi, I have 4 sites that use the wordfence free plugin. I also use wordfence central to help manage. I have some issues with one of these sites.

If I look at the wordfence central dashboard, 3 of the sites look quite normal but one has the two green arrows indicating presumably that a scan is happening. This has been scanning for 3 days now. It also show 48% compliance for the scan and 60% for the firewall.

If you click the results you are taken to a page showing the scan. This states that the scan compliance percentage is 60% and the Firewall 70% WHY a difference?

The scan has 3 grey padlocks then 8 big blue ticks. and APPEARS over yet still has a STOP SCAN button active. There are 0 Results Found and 0 Ignored Results. What is happening here?

If you go to the Wordfence scan page of the website (https://friendsofhoverugby.org.uk/wp-admin/admin.php?page=WordfenceScan) then you see 60% compliance for scan and 70% compliance for firewall. and a START NEW SCAN button. Which would seem to indicate that the scan is over. Why the difference between Central and the main page?

Again, it has the 0 results and 0 ignored., 3 grey padlocks and 8 blue ticks.

I also note that there is 1 connection issue, NOT for the one showing the scanning peculiarities. This is history.hoverugby.club and it just says Error Detected. I hit retry and it reports that it is still having trouble. Yet, if you look at the Dashboard it appears connected -although nothing is clear.

Can you help with these issues please?

Hi @andyward75, thanks for describing your issue.

For a free site on Central, 48% would be normal for the firewall rather than the scan although it might be possible to hit 48% by disabling some options. 60% would be normal for the scan, but could also be the firewall if it’s optimized. The numbers on Central’s main page are a composite of the multiple percentages shown on the individual Scan and Firewall pages, but not a direct average. 70% is normal for the scan signatures and firewall rules for free sites, but the overall percentages will be less than this.

If you mouse-over the percentage charts on the site itself, a tooltip will tell you which settings you’d need to enable to increase the number. If they’re all just premium features then it’s likely you have the maximum achievable scores on the free version for that site.

It’s likely your scan has failed and is stuck, which is why you see a stop button in one place but another may think the scan is now over. Central could be having trouble reaching your site, even if the site can reach Central, but that’s not so common.

It may be appropriate to try a manual scan to grab some more detailed logging about the scan itself:

    • Stop the existing scan if it is still running (Hit the “Stop” button even if it seems to have timed out).
    • Go to Wordfence > Scan > Manage Scan and locate the “Performance Options” section. Set “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” to 20.
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • Go to the Tools > Diagnostics page.
    • In the “Debugging Options” section check the circle “Enable debugging mode”.
    • If “Start scan remotely” is checked, uncheck this option.
    • Click to “Save Changes”.
    • Start a new scan on the Scan page.
    • If the scan fails again, copy the last 20 lines or so from the Log (click the “Show Log” link) once the scan finishes and paste them in the post.

If the scan runs successfully while trying the above method and the timed-out scan was just an anomoly, you can leave all the settings above except forEnable Debugging Mode”.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
