I am writing to report an issue I encountered with the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway plugin after updating to version 7.9.2. Post-update, I faced a critical problem where payments via Stripe became impossible.

Upon entering card details and clicking the payment button, the following error message appears: “Sorry, we are unable to process your payment at this time. Please retry later.” This issue occurs 100% of the time, indicating a consistent failure in the payment process.

Moreover, this problem persists even in test mode. I attempted to troubleshoot by disabling all other plugins, leaving only WooCommerce and the Stripe Gateway plugin active, but the issue remained.

However, after downgrading back to version 7.8.1, the problem was resolved, suggesting a bug introduced in version 7.9.2. I am hoping for a prompt resolution to this issue and wanted to bring it to the community’s attention for further investigation and support.

Thank you for your assistance and looking forward to a fix.

    Hey there ??

    Thanks for reaching out!

It seems like you are experiencing issues processing payments after updating to the WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway plugin to version 7.9.2. Downgrading to 7.8.1 resolves the issue, correct?

If this is not yet already enabled, would you mind enabling the logging for Stripe by heading to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Stripe?

Next, click “Settings”, scroll down to Advanced Settings, and enable “Log error messages”:

Once that is enabled, please try processing a payment again and then go to WooCommerce → Status → Logs, select the latest “Stripe” from the dropdown at the top right, and click “View”. Please share those results with us here, redacting any sensitive information.

Additionally, please share a copy of your site’s System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce → Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

    Cheers!

I’m also having a problem after upgrade to 7.9.2. On the Stripe Log I get the message

    invalid_request_error – statement_descriptor_suffix
The statement descriptor must contain at least one Latin character.

    where

    “statement_descriptor_suffix”: “#35862”,

On checking with Stripe support they confirmed that the suffix must contain at least one letter.

I have temporarily resolved this by unchecking the box ‘Add customer order number to the bank statement’

    A quick follow-up, @goeninc.

The issue reported here sounds like this one, reported on GitHub. Could you confirm if that is the case, please?

Just to clarify, how are the Payments & transactions settings look right now, at the site?

Also, just to be sure, from what version of the plugin did the upgrade to 7.9.2 was made? 7.8.1, or another?

    cc’ing @seasicksteve. Thanks for chiming-in.

On my site plugin auto updated on 7/2 from 7.9.1 to 7.9.2 and orders started failing after that.

    Hey @seasicksteve

    Thanks for clarifying.

    “statement_descriptor_suffix”: “#35862”,

Since you are seeing the above errors in the log, this bug @anastas10s shared seems related to your specific issue.

I’d suggest subscribing to the GitHub thread to stay looped in on updates as they occur.

    Cheers!

@beautyofcode, thank you for the support.
@seasicksteve, I appreciate your similar report and follow-up. It was very informative.

Thanks to both of you, I now understand the workaround and future measures.

In response to this issue, I have decided to discontinue using this plugin and have switched to a third-party Stripe payment plugin, specifically Payment Plugins for Stripe WooCommerce.

Going forward, I plan to conduct test transactions with each update to ensure everything is functioning correctly. However, it is crucial that issues like this, especially related to payments, are minimized as much as possible.

I am grateful for the continuous development of such a fantastic plugin and thank you for your efforts.
