• I am currently unable to save changes to any forms. This began after I migrated the site in question to the client’s server, but it also could have been related to a recent update—I haven’t checked the interface since creating the form a few months ago.

When I try to save a form, I get the following message:

Custom Contact Forms is experiencing issues.
There is an issue with synchronizing data. Please try deactivating all other plugins and activating the TwentyFifteen theme. If this fixes the problem, you have a plugin or theme conflict. If it does not, please post in the support forums or Github.

I have not deactivated all my plugins and switched to TwentyFifteen (to do so would not be viable at this point), but I highly doubt that a theme or plugin conflict is the cause, since I have been running an identical theme/plugin setup for months on my own server with no issues. To rule out an issue with the form itself, I deleted it and attempted to build a new one from scratch, only to find that I could only save that form once before the error came back. I also deleted and reinstalled the plugin, to no avail.

Meanwhile, on my test server, everything is working exactly as it should—except for one time when the Manage Form screen threw a malformed popup that read “Custom Contact Forms is experiencing issues” and could not be closed, everything else can be edited and saved as normal.

What’s the deal here? Is there some buried data from the migration that’s throwing a wrench in the works? Or is this related to the plugin itself? Most importantly, how can I fix it, because it is quite literally the only thing left to finish before we take the site live?

  • I have a similar issue and the same warning pop up. Here is what happens.

I build all new wordpress installs in a sub folder and never in the domain root. This allows me to use the root for html should the need arise. If i accidentally install Custom Contact Forms while running the site in the sub folder and then copy the index.php and .htaccess to the root. Then I go to the wp settings tab and change the SITE URL to / This is when the plugin crashes.

I uninstall the plugin and reinstall and it still will not work.

As long as I wait until I move the site to the root there is no issues and CCF works beautifully.

Taylor, I know you have been working on your plugin non stop since you changed it and I tell you it is now working beautifully for me except when I make this mistake.

    Thanks Bruce

    Hi Taylor,

I run wordpress the same way as Bidonme, installed in a subfolder not root. I am having the same issue. Do you have any suggestions as to what could be causing this error when wordpress is not installed in the root?

    Thanks

Taylor, Just to clarify this issue.

When we install CCF plugin in while running WordPress in a sub folder and it works beautifully. We show the client the finished site and get the approval to go live with the site.

Now we copy the index.php and the .httpacces files to the domains root and modify the site url to reflect this in the index.php. At this point CCF still works beautifully.

Now we go to dashboard/settings/general settings and change the site url to https://mysite.com/ while keeping the WordPress url https://mysite.com/wordpress/ This is when the plugin crashes.

Most plugins follow the url change without any issues. I notice the same problem with NextGen Galleries.

Worst part is that even if we completely delete the plugin and files, and remove all the ccf_ Mysql entries and then reinstall CCF it still will now work. You can never use CCF again on this website.

Thanks in advance and sorry to be so wordy!

    Same problem…

I think it is like “Request Time Out”. Because with less inputs, I didn’t take any error message.

Hi Taylor – I have been receiving the same error message. Unfortunately, the various fixes that people have mentioned have not worked for me, and I don’t understand what you intend for us to do in your message to strontium:

[Thu Mar 05 16:57:50.786223 2015] [:error] [pid 6977:tid 140268405720832] [client ::1:52965] PHP Deprecated: Automatically populating $HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA is deprecated and will be removed in a future version. To avoid this warning set ‘always_populate_raw_post_data’ to ‘-1’ in php.ini and use the php://input stream instead. in Unknown on line 0, referer: https://localhost/theme1/wp-admin/post.php?post=5&action=edit

Can you correct your php.ini file as instructed?

I have the same error message in a pop-up. Did Taylor move this thread to another area? Anyone get answers to the unresolved issues above?

    Thanks

Everyone here please check for plugin and theme conflicts. Deactivate all plugins and activate a default theme like TwentyFifteen

Really? 4 days ago when I needed to fix this I found the solution. Remove CCF and went with another product. Problem solved.

    Hi Taylor,

I have the same basic issue as described above (…There is an issue synchronising data….” pop up whenever I try and save a page and the contact form does not work on our website. I have deactivated the plugins and tried TwentyFifteen theme but still the contact form does not work.

I hope you can help me with this and slowly and clearly walk me through a fix.

    Many thanks

    Howdy,

First of all, I really love your plugin , it’s really wonderful..

    but..

I run wordpress the same way as Bidonme & callumappstogether: installed in a subdirectory. And it was f’d .. Mainly because of the reCAPTCHA Keyword I couldn’t change to the new site.. The plugin still works, but I can’t make any changes.

But I think I found a way to make it work. Maybe it won’t work for you guys, but it might be worth a shot.

    1. I installed the plugin on an other website (where WordPress isn’t installed in a subdirectory).
    2. I recreated the form, and in case of the reCAPTCHA I use the sitekey and secret code of the final website.
    3. I export the form
    4. I open the form in Dreamweaver (but there are more editors). And I replace a few things after <channel>.

    – Title
    – Link
    – Description

    5. I use a ‘replace all text’ feature in dreamweaver to change all the old URLs to the URLs of the new site.
    6. Import the new form on your final website.

It works for me, so I thought I’d share it with you guys.

    Bart

We have the same issue as many others who have tried to change the directory of the website after the plugin works.

We were working on the website where wordpress was installed at a subdomain… (www.website.com/site) — When it was finished we changed the “Site Address (URL)” field as we always do in this process to be the root domain (‘www.website.com’)

Upon doing that, Custom Contact Forms completely broke, giving the “… issues with synchronizing data…” error message when we try to open any page with a form on it, or edit any form through the plugin’s interface.

The only way to stop this from happening, was to return the site to https://www.website.com/site (where it can’t stay)

We uninstalled the plugin in several different ways (with /site, without /site, etc.) and reinstalled it, but this does not fix the problem. As soon as we reinstall the plugin, the error comes back (I assume that it has something to do with the “insert form” button on the editor window, since there’s no forms involved anymore.) We’ve even tried all the different permalink settings, and none of them change the problem.

I even tried to find tables in the database that have to do with the plugin, but there are none which are named anything similar to Custom Content Forms.

THis particular issue is not a compatibility issue with any theme or other plugin. It works just fine with the site as is, if we keep ‘/site’ at the end of our URL. When we remove it, it stops working. In the end, we had to go with another plugin because we have a deadline and unfortunately nobody is getting any help to fix this.

I know this is a minor situation compared to the thousands of people who use their WordPress installation without changing the URL. It really is a wonderful plugin otherwise. Let us know if you pin down this issue.

The URL issue is most likely related to having differing home and site URLs. If home_url and site_url are on different domains you will need to enable CORS since the API will be on a different domain than the admin.

I have just tried to install this plugin and am getting the same error. I have deactivated all other plugins and changed to 2015 theme and still get the error.

    Any advice?

I am having the same issue as well, but on an older setup. I have not changed any plugins used other then the fact that I installed W3T and I have of course kept on updating all the existing plugins and WordPress.
Now I do get an issue with Custom Contact Forms and the pop-up:

Custom Contact Forms is experiencing issues.
There is an issue with synchronizing data. Please try deactivating all other plugins and activating the TwentyFifteen theme. If this fixes the problem, you have a plugin or theme conflict. If it does not, please post in the support forums or Github.

The forms can no longer be edited and I get this popup everywhere. I also see this error:
failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) site.com/wp-json/ccf/forms?page=1 and also with the url site.com/wp-json/ccf/forms/4538
I guess I will have to debug at a staging site as the main site has to keep on running, but if anyone knows of issue with CCF and W3T or the client’s hoster GoDaddy or the error mentioned to let me know

FYI I read this CCF Github issue and realized I needed to save my permalinks again and then empty all caches. After that I could edit forms again. I also am no longer getting these warnings that there are synching issues. Hope this will help others too!
