Issue with Visitor Counter Reset After Update
-
Dear WPStatistics Support Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I recently updated all the plugins and the WordPress core on my website. After completing the updates, I noticed that the visitor counter for my posts was reset to zero. This issue occurred specifically after the updates, and I’m concerned that the post visitor data may have been lost or is not being tracked properly anymore.
Could you kindly advise if this is a known issue or if there’s a way to restore the previous visitor data? Any guidance on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Best regards,
George

Hi,
Thank you for your responses. As requested, I’ve attached several screenshots of the WordPress admin view that illustrate the issue with the visitor counter being reset to zero after the updates.
In the screenshots, you’ll see:
- The visitor counter reset for all posts, some of which had accumulated over 2,000 views, but are now showing zero.
- The current settings of the WPStatistics plugin within the admin panel.
Please let me know if you need any additional details or if there’s anything else I can provide to help you investigate this issue further. I appreciate your support and look forward to your guidance on resolving the problem.
Best regards,
GeorgeThank you @digitalmarketing4u!

Yes! This is the one
Thank you @digitalmarketing4u!
We have been reviewing and testing various scenarios over the past few days.
Unfortunately, we do not have an answer or solution at this time, but we are continuing our investigation.
We will provide you with an update in the next few days.
Please rest assured that the data recorded after the update to the latest version is safe.
Thank you for your understanding and patience!

After reviewing the matter, I can confirm that there is no problem with WP Statistics.
Starting from version 14.10.1, the column name and the source of data have been updated to “Visitors” (image); indicating that we now display the number of unique visitors per post. Prior to this, the column showed the number of views, as its name suggested (image).
Please note that the low visitor count after the update is due to the fact that the option to record this type of data was not previously enabled. As a result, WP Statistics cannot display the accurate number of visitors for posts prior to the update.
There should be no issues moving forward, as we made this option enabled by default in recent updates.
Rest assured, the number of views remains safe. You can check the view counts using our Mini Chart add-on.
Additionally, we have implemented a feature to let our users change the column data using a custom hook. This feature will be available in an upcoming release. You can check the commit here.
Thank you for your understanding and patience!
Regards
I’m pleased to inform you that we have released version 14.10.3 of WP Statistics.
In this version, we have reverted the changes and you should be able to see the views by default, instead of visitors, for each post.
Thank you for your continued support!
Regards
