I just moved my site from one host to another, with the exact copy of all the files and database and there seems to be a couple of issues. First off, I have a slider plugin, and when I try to add a new slide, all of the options are responsive, but when I click on “add a new slide” nothing happens. If I try to edit any of the slides, nothing happens. I tried to reinstall the plugin, but apparently it’s not free anymore, so I installed a couple other slider plugins, with the same weird results.

The other issue is that the media library is totally empty despite all of the files being in the uploads folder. I thought maybe this is related since adding a new slide is essentially creating a new link to something in the media library.

I thought maybe something was wrong with the urls so I tried using the search and replace master db script, but I didn’t discover anything that would be effecting the urls. I also tried resetting the permalinks, still nothing.

  • Hi, kaspirtk1, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

A common misconception is that if you upload files to the same folders they were in previously that they’re automatically in the media library. They’re not. To help w/this, you may wish to try a plug called “Add From Server”. It can be found in the WordPress plugin repository.

Once you’ve added your files to the media library, please let us know if that did (or did not) resolve your problem.

I saw this plugin as a suggestion on another post and tried it out, but I have over 1600 photos and it seems that I can only select one photo at a time with this plugin. Is there any other better way to do this?

kaspirtk1, actually, you can select entire folders to import.

How does one do that? There are no boxes next to folders to check, and I don’t see the option anywhere else.

I should also note that I just tried to upload a single file, and it still doesn’t show up in my library

Hi again, kaspirtk1. Click the link to the folder you need to import, i.e., uploads/2016/06. At that point you should see files you can import. The first checkbox selects all the files in that folder.

    Does that help?

I thought so. The first checkbox does not select all files for me. It just selects that one box and that is all.

kaspirtk1, please provide a site url so we can have a look. Also, let’s try this.

Please change to a default theme, log in, & see if you can upload to your media library. If you already have a default theme active, or if that doesn’t help, please rename your plugins folder to plugins1 or plugins.old. Again log in & try to upload something to your media library. If that works, then rename your plugins folder back to its original name, but rename all folders inside it by appending a 1 or a .old to them. A good candidate to leave alone is Akismet or Jetpack. Log in after each change, remembering to clear your browser cache each time, & try to upload to your media library. You’ll know which plugin is at fault when you can no longer do that. If those steps don’t work, then please do the following.

Please open your wp-config.php file & change wp-debug to true. Then go to your dashboard & see if any errors are displayed. Please copy & paste those to your next reply. turn this off as soon as you’re done, because it does pose a significant security risk.

Next, please look in the folder where you installed WordPress & see if there are any files called error_log or error.log. Please include recent entries in your next reply.

Lastly, please log into your hosting control panel & determine if there is an entry called “Error Logs” or similar. If so, again, please paste these to your next reply.

You should enclose entries in , i.e.,

    entry 1
    entry 2
    entry3

I just switched to the twenty sixteen default theme and now the original plugin slider that I was having issues with seems to not be installed, as well as the other plugins I installed afterwards that also weren’t allowing me to add any media, but add-from-server is still installed. Also, my media library is all there like it was before the move.

Additionally, there are no errors in the cpanel error log, and no error log files in my file manager.

Well, kaspirtk1, I think that says that the theme is at fault–or at least that it’s in conflict w/another plugin such as the original slider plugin.

    (@kaspirtk1)

Would you lean more towards the theme being at fault, since multiple plugins seem to be unistalled?

    (@kaspirtk1)

Looks like switching to the default theme and then back to the old theme did it. I don’t know why, I’m just happy it works haha. Thanks for all of your time and attention!

kaspirtk1, I truly hate to break your bubble, but I do think that trying to determine what caused this error might prove a wise course of action.

My suggestions in a previous post regarding changing wp-debug from false to true & looking for any error logs, either in your web folders or via your control panel, still very much apply. I suspect you’ll experience similar problems down the line if the cause of the error isn’t found & remediated. I have my own suspicions, but w/o really knowing your site & w/o seeing any sort of error msgs, they’re just that–& therefore aren’t worth voicing.
