• There are many issues that we’ve run into for the past two years using a theme called Podcaster. So, we’ve been wanting to update for some time. We ran into issues changing our theme 3 months ago, and I’m needing some guidance as to what to do next.

Our current theme that we’re wanting to get rid off had issues including the plugins that came with it. These issues stopped us from updating the theme, plugins, and more importantly, updating WordPress. We haven’t updated WordPress in over two years.

When we tried to install the new theme, I kept getting logged out of WP, and had to request a new password in order to login. This happened well over 20 times until I gave up and switched back to our old theme and site.

Right now WordPress is on update 4.8.1, and my plan is to switch to the theme we’ve been wanting, called Divi. My plan of attack is to activate the 2017 WordPress theme in the mean time, and deactivate all plugins in order to update WordPress. Will this allow for us to avoid any issues with a new theme?

I would appreciate all help on this!

    Please update your WordPress First.
Then Apply Twenty Seventeen Theme . And then update all the plugins.
For your theme you will need a stable updated version to get rid of all your problems.
Any Where between the plugin and theme update should you get stuck up in any problems just deactivate all the plugins & themes by changing the name of the plugins and themes folder. If the website runs well, then try enabling plugins one by one and then the same with the theme.

    Thank you for your help!

I do have one clarifying question. Before I update WP first…do I need to deactivate the plugins?

And then update the plugins while they are deactivated?

Nope do not deactivate plugins before updating WordPress. It is not needed.
