• Hi

Im looking for some inspiration here.

The wordpress admin area witkjs fine the front end view of the website doesn’t – the css isnt showing

But let me elaborate. The site is hosted on google cloud – it worked and then stopped working. I thought it to be a file permission issue and after the con violated process of using PuTTY to generate a key and accessing with Filezilla found all file and folder attributes to be wrong – and unfortunately couldn’t amend them with Filezilla rather a case of running apache console commands and changing directory and file permissions that way.

At this moment I have set all to chmod 777 and will refine it down to a bit more secure once I have the theme working

Its this getting the theme to display properly I am having issues with – if I use a standard wordpress theme same thing so 2020 or whatever theme also doesn’t work, so its not a theme specific issue which is why I was looking at the server environment

everything is updated to latest release – reinstalled wordpress core too

So literally casting around for some thoughts and inspiration

    Help ??

  • i checked your website and it seems every request is throwing 500, check your server error log for the exact issue

also as you mentioned about the file permission, make sure file ownership and group (www-data) is correct as well

    thank you Corusx
im not getting a 500 error, just not showing the site with the css applied for me

I did set the www folder as chmod 777 and recursively all files and folders within so I dont believe at this stage its a permissions error (intended to correct the file system to tighter security than fully open as it is now when I got it to work properly

I did post the incorrect url of the .com inadvertently on my original post so can you please confirm it was the .co.uk site that was showing a 500 error for you please.
