• Hello!

Yesterday I updated the Elementor plugin (free version) from version 3.2.2 to 3.2.3. Additionally, I updated my Astra Pro Theme from version 3.4.1 to 3.4.2. My site is currently using the latest version of WordPress (5.7.1). Unfortunately, after updating both the Elementor plugin and Astra theme to the latest version, the design & layout on the homepage of my website “broke.” After updating, I received a message on the backend of my site saying “Elementor Data Updater: Database update process is running in the background. Taking a while? – Click here to run it now.” I tried regenerating the CSS files in Elementor and in the Astra plugin and rolling back to the previous version of Elementor, but neither fixed the problem. Eventually, I was able to restore my homepage by pushing the most recent backup of my site live. I also want to note that my site uses the following Elementor Add-On Plugins in addition to the free version of Elementor: Elementor – Header, Footer & Blocks (version 1.5.9) and Ultimate Addons for Elementor (version 1.30.2). Was this issue a result of the most recent Elementor update or the most recent Astra theme update? Or was it a compatibility issue between either the Elementor core plugin and the add-on plugins or between the Elementor core plugin and the latest Astra Pro theme? I will eventually need to update my site to the latest version of Elementor. How can I go about doing this without running into this same issue again? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Hi eleanoroconnor,

to answer your question how to prevent something like this in the future I would create a Staging page (An exact clone of your perfect working live page) that will be your place to safely test any update! There you can safely do the plugins updates and even the WordPress installation updates without directly affecting and or (if something fails) harming your live page!

You can test everything there and see in real-time if everything works perfectly or not, and if everything works perfectly, then you can directly push it to your live page or manually make the changes on the live page (it doesn’t take long to update everything twice on Both the the staging and live page anyway).

Questions from me to you do you use a child theme for your Astra Theme? And do you know how to setup a Staging page? And how bad die your design break? Was it the colors or the fonts or entire section, or?

I hope that I atleast answered your questíon how to prevent this in the future.

And not to freak you out, I Just tried your website on my mobile phones (Samsung S21 and Xiaomi mi 11) and if I click on any page inside the mobile menu IT takes me to the actuall page but it breaks the css of the menu and the menu items, maybe also on the page itself but I can’t tell, cause I can’t see or I Just don’t know how it should look like.

So there is still An issue there, don’t know how it is on a Tablet or Desktop but this is atleast the case on mobile phone.

Thanks for your response; one thing to note is that since this issue first began, every time I attempt to update another plugin or element on the website the homepage breaks in the same way it did when I updated the Elementor plugin and Astra theme, even though I’m not using the latest versions of those plugins that had caused the issue initially. Additionally, the homepage only appears broken after I make updates and I view the webpage in incognito after doing a hard refresh. In the backend of WordPress when I go to edit the page with Elementor everything appears normal. Could it be that I am running out of storage space? Is this something you’d recommend talking to my hosting provider about? Any advice, once again, is appreciated!
