Issues with cmd v pasting in visual editor; WP 4.0.1, Firefox, OSX10.10

  • Hi all. I am no longer able to paste using the ol’ cmd+v in the visual editor. I can in the html editor. I am able to right click and paste but this comes with some interesting errors (e.g. as headings even when they are not headings; html remnants even though I have a paste as plain text plugin).

    Any idea why this might be suddenly happening? I have disabled all of my browser plugins and it is still not working. I tried pasting in Safari and everything seems normal there. Is there some browser setting that I don’t know about?

    It is odd that this just sort of stopped working…

    Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    As I said, I have deactivated all plugins (to clarify in both wordpress and in firefox). The same problems are there even with all plugins deactivated.

    The problem exists on four different sites, each with different themes. It happens with Twenty Fourteen, with two custom made themes, and with two non custom themes.

    It really must be some sort of firefox issue: it works in Safari. And it must be something to do with MY firefox, as the person sitting next to me on another computer has had no trouble with my sites. I just have no idea WHAT it could be.

    Anyone?

    AHA! Update!

    For security reasons in firefox about:config I had set
    dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled to false

    This totally breaks the visual editor. Interesting (and a bit lame). Now I know.

    Ah, that makes perfect sense. Pasting is a clipboard event. There’s nothing WordPress can do about it if you have switched it off at the browser level.
