Issues with free shipping and coupons

    We have a bit of a weird one.

    We have free shipping for orders over the amount of R1200. The free shipping rule is set so it applies before any discount.

    We have a coupon that gives people 10% off.

    If the order is R1200 then free shipping is applied.

    If we apply the 10% discount and the order sub total is between R1200 & +- R1217.00 then Woo adds the shipping fee back to the order.

    If the order sub total is over +- R1217.50 then the free shipping is applied.

    The free shipping should however be for all orders over R1200 even if the 10% discount is applied.

    Seems like the calculations are not right.

    We are running the most recent version of Woo.

    I’ve done the usual troubleshooting turn off all plugins except Woo / activate Storefront theme.

    I’d need t ask for additional pieces of information for better understading. Can you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.?

    Can you provide screenshots of your coupon, and your coupon settings?

    If the order is R1200 then free shipping is applied.

    How are you adding the conditions related to free shipping? Can you please send screenshots as well?

    This is a staging server. I’ve deactivated most plugins, activated Storefront and created a new plugin with Smart Coupons deactivated just to rule out any 3rd party plugins.

    For the coupon we have tried various different settings.

    For shipping we’ve tried both “A minimum or amount OR a coupon” and “A minimum order amount”.
    As mentioned the coupon activates correctly at R1200 but as soon as you add the coupon the shipping is added back specifically for the price ranges mentioned above.

    Thanks for sharing the screenshots.

    I replicated your exact settings on my test site but was not able to reproduce this issue on my end.

    Here’s what’s happening on my cart: Free Shipping is still enabled even after the discount has been applied to my cart and the subtotal is $1080.

    Here’s a scenario when the cart total does not meet the required amount of $1200, Free
    Shipping is not listed as one of the options, in my case, Flat Rate was used by default:

    Based on the System Status Report, I can see that there are still active third-party plugins on your site. To rule out any conflict among these plugins, kindly deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and see it resolves the issue?

    In my original tests I have already turned off all plugins except Woo. Please see status report with them all turned off again. It doesn’t make a difference.

    Thanks for sharing the screenshots.

    I can see that the prices on your products are VAT-inclusive. For my first example, this was configured with taxes disabled on my site.

    I replicated this again on my test site and verified that when the total cart price reached $1200, then I added the coupon for a 10% discount, the Free Shipping option disappears.

    This is because coupons are applied to the product price before tax is calculated.

    What worked for me is changing the Free Shipping requires condition to A minimum order amount instead.

    Thanks for the explanation although it still doesn’t make 100% sense to me.

    If my minimum amount for free shipping is R1200 and the customer spends R1200 and then applies a coupon then there should still be free shipping if I have checked the box “Apply minimum order rule before coupon is applied”.

    The way the coupon is applied may impact taxes in a certain way but it really shouldn’t affect the free shipping given the rule should be applied before we add the coupon.
