Issues with Header – nothing appears typing into Site Identity or Tagline

  • Hi,
    I’ve been building my WordPress website using Elementor and Base WP theme.
    I’ve always had an issue whenever I tried to make changes to the header.

    I tried to change the Site identity Title in the Header and the Tagline which I added when I first started building the website, then it wouldn’t let me alter them.

    I’ve recently tried to remove the tagline and slightly change the colour of the Site Identity title.
    It wouldn’t let me change the colour of the Site Identity Title.
    Sometimes it would let me make changes, then not.
    Sometimes changes appear when I checked the website later on. Later they’d disappear

    When I closed the site last night, I did have a header Title text and [unwanted] tagline text. But this morning both titles have now disappeared.
    Nothing appears or happens when I type into the Site Identity or Tagline box.

    I’ve tried uploading the title as an image [my title text on a white background] to the Logo box – likewise either nothing happens or if it does appear the text is huge, even if I go back to Photoshop and re-do it with smaller text. I have given up doing it that way.
    If recently added a site icon / flavicon via the same site identity menu – which uploaded fine.

    I want to be able to type in the title text as it’s quicker and easier to see how it looks on the page – if it worked.

    I am not computer or website savvy so if you reply please explain in layman’s terms.

  • The site title and tagline are WordPress core options. Themes can support them by supplying code to render them differently (like font or color or different HTML). This is an override, and most themes do this. Plugins can also do this. I think Elementor does this and interferes with whatever was going on before it. When I deactivate Elementor, the site title and tagline work like the theme intends.

    If you have issues with Elementor, ask at that plugin support forum. Or just don’t use it.
    It is getting very close to having a new editor in WordPress, where you won’t need Elementor. You can use a beta version now, if you want to try it: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/gutenberg/
