Hi I hope this finds you well

I upgraded LSCWP from version 3.4.2 to version 3.5.2, this resulted in my website having several issues such as flashing while loading and styling issues.

Initially I turned all CSS settings OFF which confirmed that one of these settings caused the issue. I then tried to exclude all CSS files from optimization to find the problematic files, but when I turned the CSS settings back on there were still errors (even though all CSS files were excluded).

I then decided to turn each CSS setting OFF to find which setting is causing a problem and found that it was CSS combine causing all of these errors. I would prefer for this setting to be ON since it made a drastic improvement to my website loading times. I just have a few questions to determine what the best course of action is, hope you can assist:

    1. Why is CSS combine now causing errors on my website if it was operating perfectly fine before (no other plugins were updated)?
    2. Was the way CSS combined changed in any way? And if so what can I do to adjust my website to these new settings?
    3. Is there any chance that other users are experiencing similar issues with the current version, thus is CSS combine something that could be fixed in future LSCWP updates?

    Thanks
    Guy

  • Hi,

I can confirm the same problems here as well, combining CSS works perfectly pre 3.5.2, but in 3.5.2, it completely breaks the site. For now I have rolled back to the old version, but this is not a long-term solution.

So, I also have found the new CSS combining to be poor compared to the old one, which worked great.

    Hi @kevinplusplus

Thanks for confirming that it is not just me. Hopefully this is something that will be rectified.

The reason I changed the way to combine, is I believe the new combine way is a better way.

You can always pm me on slack to get issues figured out and fix. I can’t see the flashing issue on tradingdispatch.com. Please contact me on slack for easier debug.

I am trying to bring the best page optimization solution for the users who used LSCWP. Each improvement could bring side effect to certain sites. I can help you to figure it out.

Just a quick update about the issue Guy met. The pages that have FOUC issue is bcos you don’t have CCSS generated yet on those pages.

In v3.5.1’s changelog * **CCSS** Critical CSS now can avoid network pollution from other sites. (@ankit), the CCSS path is changed. Therefore, your previous CCSS file for same page won’t be able to work. All CCSS need to be regenerated.

The new CCSS filenames will have your blog id if your blog are under a network.

You will just need to generate all CCSS. It isn’t an issue of latest plugin version. Even further, it actually fixed the CCSS pollution issue. Just most users are not aware of.

TIP: If you want to get rid of FOUC even after purged CCSS, please turn OFF the option Generate Critical CSS In Background.

I am experiencing something similar, where combining CSS in the latest version totally breaks my page, eliminating all/most styling, images, etc. This was not an issue prior to the new version.

My case has nothing to do with CCSS, as I don’t load CSS asynchronously, nor do I have any of the CCSS generation options enabled.

I wasn’t sure if it was better to post in here or a separate topic.

edit: I now see this is marked as “resolved”. I’ll post separately

I will give a CSS Combine External and Inline option tomorrow in v3.6-rc7. It defaults to OFF. You should be able to get same behavior as previous version v3.4.2. This is a quick tmp fix.

For better optimization result, I will keep working on debugging the reported issues. Hope I can address the issue soon.

You are welcome. Apologize for always late responses.

v3.6-rc7 has committed. I will leave this topic as closed.
