My website crashed this evening when I logged-in to wp-admin to make a blog post. I used Updraft Plus for back-ups, and when I went to back-up from the most recent back-up (10/4), I choose all components to restore (Plugins, Themes, Uploads, Others, Database) and when I click “next” to start restoring from back-up I get the following error message: “Remote fetch failed / No local copy present” for plugins, themes, and uploads. Any idea why that might be the case and what I can do to resolve that?

I can see my backups in Google Drive. For each back-up there are two files – one larger one (2mb) and one smaller one (512bytes). I’m not sure how to tell if there are plugins, themes, etc. I downloaded the larger one to my laptop…it is a “gzip” file. I opened it up and got a document that seems to have all the relevant data (articles, etc.) for my website. But I’m not sure where to go from here.?

    Thanks in advance!

If it’s GZIP – this is your Database.

To see what component the file has been backed up look at the end of the file names.

    .db.gz for DB

    .uploads.zip for Uploads

    .themes.zip for Themes

    .plugins.zip for Plugins

The larger (2mb) file is .gz,the smaller (512 byte) file is .zip. When I open the .gz file that looks like my database as I can see all of my post content in there, along with a bunch of other data.

When I open the .zip file its name has “-others” at the end and in that I see index.php, languages, and upgrade-temp-backup.

Should I try restoring only the database? If I do that, what happens to the plugins and themes that I use?

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi there,

Yes, you can try restoring the database. This won’t affect plugin, themes, etc.
I’d suggest you run a full backup before this so you can restore back if needed.

    Best regards,

    Nick
