    Hello,

I have just installed the Ditty plugin, and Ditty RSS.

I am having difficulty understanding how to style the ticker. I see in your demo that there are several styles of Tickers. I wish to create a ticker from an RSS feed, but what I’m getting is not looking good. Images come in at full size, cannot use this as a ticker.

    1. What is a Ditty, versus a Layout, versus a Display? All three of these seem to create a shortcode that shows a ticker or some other style of article layout. I’m trying to follow steps, but it looks like I am creating three different feeds. Is this correct?

    2. Also, is there a template that I can use that already exists? I have no templates, and spent several hours reading the documentation and unsuccessfully trying to style a ticker to look good like the ones on the demo page.

    Your help is appreciated!

    Hi again,

Also having difficulty with the Settings > Global Ditty panel.

When I put my cursor on the panel, it moves with my mouse, instead of allowing the cursor to move from selection to selection. I can almost use it if I move the mouse onto the panel from one side, but then the cursor locks on the box and moves up/down with the mouse.

    A bug?

Thanks for contacting me. I’ll do my best to answer your questions:

    1. Layouts and Displays are templates to (optionally) be used with your Ditty. Layouts are how you template out (html/css) your individual items. A Display is the main container for the Ditty (Ticker, List, Grid, etc…). You can also have completely custom layouts and display settings within your Ditty without using a template for either. The Ditty shortcode is what you would use to add the ticker to your website. The Layout and Display menu screens are only if you want update/edit one of your templates directly, outside of the main Ditty editor.
    2. Here is the template I am using on my site: https://www.metaphorcreations.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/layout-post-horizontal-alpha.json. Open the link and save to save the .json file to your computer. You can then use the Ditty > Import/Export screen on your site to import the Layout to use for your RSS item.

If you haven’t already, please run through these 2 articles:

    2. https://www.metaphorcreations.com/article/ditty/general/using-layouts/

I’ll have to check out the global Ditty issue later tonight to see if I can replicate. Let me know if you have any further questions on this things above. Thanks!

    Hello @metaphorcreations ,

Thanks for the links. I had read these, but was stuck, as it talks about a simple default case and existing templates that I didn’t have. Before I purchased the Ditty RSS I was not aware that CSS would be required to design the layouts. I’m a bit rusty on CSS.

Thanks also for the Layout download. I have that in my Ditty layouts, now.

I did manage to create a Display that was passable for my needs, but have no idea how to use that. So far, I have an RSS feed, a Template, and a Display.

I posted a feed on a test page here: See https://actionsusa.com/aaa-feature-test

This is not too terrible except that the text of the post from the RSS is really long. It needs to be cut off with a {more} or a “…” of some kind.

I created a “Display” and managed to do some styling. I like how the demo of my Display looks on the backend, but have no clue how that ties to an RSS feed that appears on the front end.

    I want to do this:

    • Put an RSS feed in a Ticker that I can place on the site as needed via the shortcode.
    • Make a pretty looking RSS feed by using whatever method(s) are required to do that.
    • So far, :-/

Your help with this is appreciated!

No worries, I’ll help you out. Since this is for a paid product, let’s continue this discussion on the support ticket on my site. I’ll reply to that now and close this one out.
