Issues with Zotpress

    Hi!

    Hopefully someone from the Zotpress dev. team will read this post.

    I found a few serious issues with Zotpress to date. I’m listing them below. Hopefully someone will be able to fix them at some point:

    1. The selection of bibliography styles available in Zotpress is very limited, specially if your site is not in EN. My website is in Portuguese and my bibliography is getting displayed with English connectors such as “and” or abbreviations such as “2nd”. This looks unprofessional.

    (I’m seriously considering copying the text output of Zotpress, removing the shortcodes from the HTML page, pasting the text and fixing these language issues… It’s pointless to use Zotpress like this, though ?? )

    2. I tried adding bookcover thumbnails to Zotpress to make the bibliography more appealing, but had to remove them as the output gets all messed up on my site (the images end up overlapping and taking most of the screen space).

    3. The bibliography is getting sorted randomly, and not by publication date (the order is neither ascending nor descending). Ex.:
    1982
    1985
    1989
    1978
    1973
    2011
    2004

    This is a great tool, but really needs some work done. I’d be willing to pay for a tool that works properly. Surely there’s other people out there that would too.

    Same needs for me.
    Kathy, you have already indicated the possibility of using other styles located in zotero or in zotpress. Have you made any progress on this. For example, I have an personal APA style in French

    I’ve gotten my way around the date sorting problem by using the following code:

[zotpress year="2008" sortby="date"]

[zotpress year="2007" sortby="date"]

    Could you share your website for me? I’d like to see the overlap problem. It might be an easy fix in the code that you can make until an update happens (I mean “if…”)

    In version 5.0, these issues have been addressed:

    1. You can add bibliography styles on the Options page — they are processed on the Zotero side, so please make sure they exist in the style repository first.

    2. The thumbnail images are still expected to be 150×150 or thereabouts, but you can change the CSS in your theme to accommodate larger sizes and different positioning.

    3. You can use the “order” parameter to determine if the years are sorted in ascending or descending order.
