• I’ve got a staging site which of course is a duplicate of the live site. Installed the Hello theme on staging and also added that plugin to give it sidebars and then had to do a bunch of work to get the same look as the live site.

The live site is running GeneratePress. In the end, both themes have the same results on gtmetrix but GP has more features, like header/footer/sidebars, choice of layouts per page etc. I created my own header, even on GP because I needed something more custom with a mega menu.

    HELLO: PageSpeed 97% | YSlow 91% | Page Size 1.24mb | requests 48
    GPress: PageSpeed 97% | YSlow 91% | Page Size 1.23mb | requests 46

Hello was 0.4 seconds faster but right now my load time isn’t great because I’m not using a CND yet and am running some heavy plugins including woocommerce and several to accompany it.

So half a day trying a new theme that’s supposed to be fast did nothing for me.

5.1s vs 5.5s – Obviously, pagespeed/yslow scores to not equate to speed.

On to deactivating plugins and see which one(s) make the biggest difference. Either that or off I go to get a CDN.
