It just doesn’t work…

  • I’ve been trying to get this plugin work for hours in 3-4 consecutive days, but it just doesn’t work…

    I needed to implement it on a custom search page using relevanssi_do_query() but it didn’t work. I searched through the documentation and followed exactly the same procedure mentioned by the users (documentation isn’t very good too – lacks examples) but it didn’t work. I know I could be doing something wrong here, so I just checked the WordPress default search and it wasn’t working there either… search.php isn’t even using any query_posts() or WP_Query or anything custom that could be overwriting WordPress default search…

    That being said, I understand there could be something else going on within the theme that could cause the issues, so I went ahead and tested the plugin on a different WordPress installation that is almost clean and I use only for testing purpose. Guess what? It didn’t work there either… Check out these screenshots:

    I hate giving 1 star rating, so I’ll still spend some time to check and make it work… And if I can get it to work, I’ll improve the rating for sure.

    Anyway, there would really be something I’m missing here, but I believe it should not be this hard to use a simple WordPress plugin… I haven’t had this kind of experience ever with a WordPress plugin before.

    How about posting a support request? As you can see from the support forums, most of the questions are answered within a day.

    If you still want to figure out why it’s not working, post a new thread on the support forums and share few more details:

    – Have you tried eliminating other plugins? You say “almost clean”, what does that “almost” mean? There are plugins that don’t work well with Relevanssi.
    – Do you have a complete index? How many posts in the index? Have you indexed all necessary post types?

    The thing is, Relevanssi is not a simple WordPress plugin. It’s doing something WordPress doesn’t actually officially support, so it has to do it in a slightly hacky way, and that doesn’t always work as smoothly as it should.
