I do not use W3 Total Cache, nor WP Super Cache, nor Hyper Cache. They simply do not work correctly with Bad Behavior plugin (one of my favorite plugins). Luckily I found Wordfence Basic Cache can work together with Bad Behavior without any issue. Unfortunately Wordfence Basic Cache isn’t as fast as the other caching plugins.

After tested many plugins, I found Autoptimize is the answer to speed up my website performance to its maximum.

Here are the test results using WebPageTest:

    — Without using any caching plugin
    Fully Loaded time: 6 – 15 seconds

    — Using Wordfence Falcon Engine
    Fully Loaded time: 8 – 25 seconds

    Using Wordfence Basic Caching
    Fully Loaded time (first view): 4.234s / 25 requests / 270 KB
    Fully Loaded time (repeat view): 2.794s / 2 requests / 95 KB

Using Wordfence Basic Caching + Autoptimize plugin
    Fully Loaded time (first view): 2.785s / 11 requests / 181 KB
    Fully Loaded time (repeat view): 1.533s / 1 request / 8 KB

I’m happy to see the significant performance improvement. The tests were performed several times to ensure its reliability.

    Thanks Frank Goossens, you’re awesome.

  • What do you call bad behavior plugin? And also note that there are many other aspects, apart from caching, to speed up your website.

Front end performance optimization hosts a list of techniques to improve your wordpress speed. And if you are only using caching then I’m pretty sure you can get in some more.

Do some research on website performance optimization techniques and try JCH Optimize plugin and see if this plugin doesn’t get you faster loading times.

Bad Behavior plugin is a plugin that blocks spam bot visitors, it also blocks other bad bots that may harm your website. Here is the link:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/bad-behavior/

The way it works is very different, it not just simply blocks it. If a suspicious visitor visits your site, it will show a short message rather then the original content. So most caching plugins aren’t able to work correctly with Bad Behavior. I have tested W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache and Hyper Cache, they all fail. Because they will show the static HTML of the real page before Bad Behavior show its message.

Only Wordfence Cachings are able to work correctly with Bad Behavior. But on my hosting, Wordfence Falcon Engine fails to improve my website’s performance. Luckily Wordfence Basic Caching can work perfectly with Bad Behavior. I used W3 Total Cache and Hyper Cache before, so I know Wordfence Basic Cache is performing far slow compare to them.

Thank for suggesting JCH Optimize, but I doubt it will work correctly with Bad Behavior. My first priority is security, that’s why I won’t drop Bad Behavior. I monitor my website regularly. On bad days, my website can have more than 10 thousands bot attacks in a single day. Bad Behavior really blocks them for visiting my sites.

It’s really is bad taste to hijack a review of a plugin to advertise your own competing plugin codealfa, even more so if your comment lacks relevance.

It’s okay Frank. It only proves that Autoptimize is great.
