Italics only intermittently work

    Hi all, this is my first post.

    I’ve had the site up & running for a while but this italics problem is driving me crazy!

    Basically when I italicise something & then save the draft or publish the change is lost & the text remains as it is. It’s weird because when I first start a post it’s usually ok for a while, then it just starts happening for no reason.

    I’ve done some reading & think maybe the problem is something to do with the style.css file, but i’m not sure where within that file I need to be looking & what to be changing. So I thought i’d ask you guys since you live & breathe this stuff & are the real experts!

    It has nothing to do with CSS because when you italicise in post editor, it wraps the text between <em></em> tags.

    Try deactivate all plugins to see if it solves the problem. If it does, re-activate each plugin individually to find out which is causing the problem.

    Try switching back to default theme to rule out theme specific issue.

    Thanks for the reply. Glad you helped ruled CSS out. Tried the theme I use, but totally default without plugins etc & it was still occurring.

    So after you telling me about <em > tags being the way text is italicised I looked at the post in the HTML view & it turns out that after a few saved drafts the post editor italicise button stops affecting < em> tags, meaning it no longer adds or removes < em> tags .

    If i manually add the tags it fixes the text.

    Is this a problem with the theme I’m using, as I really love it otherwise.

    If so is there a way I can fix it?

    If the problem goes away when you use default theme then the culprit would be Aparatus. If that’s the case, you’re probably better off contacting the theme author.

    If it’s not a plugin or theme issue, perhaps try reinstalling wordpress’ core files and see if that helps.
