• Dear iThemes,

I have NGINX Server hosting the website on, and I have set-up the nginx file in General Settings > NGINX configuration file to the right path.

But before I did this and even now still I keep getting in my error log that apache is not found, I think this is due the first checkbox in General Settings which grant permission to write in wp-admin and htaccess, but I don’t have htaccess since I have NGINX. I want it to write in wp-admin so I do not would like to disable this, but I also dont want to get these errors:

“Empty file encountered while attempting apacheto update configuration file.”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hmm … there is something odd happening in this env.

For instance the error msg you are getting (taken from the screenshot of the Logs page):

Empty file encountered while attempting apache to update configuration file.

I’ve run an automated search through the entire plugin code, and this exact error does not exist in the code … (Note: I searched for “Empty file encountered”).

However I did find this slightly different error (which boils down to the same msg):

Empty file encountered when attempting to update apache config file.

Notice the subtle differences … This msg also matches with the msg quoted in another topic on this forum …

But there are more deviations in the strings as displayed on your Logs page screenshot:

    Manage settings –> Manage Settings
    All modules –> All Modules
    Significant events (50) –> Important Events (50)
    Critical Problems (50) –> Critical Issues (50)
    Critical problem –> Critical Issue
    View details –> View Details

It looks like the env is using an unusual translation. Make sure Site Language is set correctly under Settings -> General (English (United States)).
(You may need to update translations after changing the Site Language).

If that doesn’t help, also try and remove or rename any better-wp-security-*.* files in the wp-content/languages/plugins folder.
(Again you may need to update translations).

Allthough the above doesn’t address the actual issue, it is important to get the right (error) strings displayed in the plugin UI as this will help further troubleshooting.

To prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes.

Addendum: It looks like the Site Language is set to “Nederlands” but the user used to log into the Dashboard is using an English based language. Not sure which one. There exist several. Check that users Language setting in his/her user profile.
