• I have used “Better Word press Security” for quite some time and been very successful with the operation of the plugin, but with the changeover thus far the results are a disaster.

I have recommended the Better Word press Security” plugin to all my clients an all of them no longer have access to there websites. I am now faced with “fix it or I will take my business elsewhere”!

The intent to improve the plugin I’m sure was a well intended effort however after now after everything fails the only way to access your site back end is to ftp in and delete the plugin entirely the result is that we must install some other security plugin to be protected or as has happened the nefarious element trying to break into your site will prevail.

You have single handedly scored more points for the bad guys than any one can imagine or could plan to do.

Please reinstate the previous version for those of us that want to stay in business.

We’re really sorry to hear about the issues you’ve had with the 4.0 update. Most settings from Better WP Security transferred to iThemes Security 4.0 except for the Hide Backend Setting, so it defaulted back to /wp-admin. After logging in from there, you can resave your custom Login URL.

We appreciate your input and feedback.

theotherguy – FWIW, the tip from iThemes almost got me fixed. Instead of /wp-admin I had to use /wp-login to get back to the dashboard (/wp-admin still gave me a 404).

This still hasn’t helped me. Fortunately I only updated one site and have been able to login via ftp and delete the plugin to regain access through the default wp-admin address.

However, if I install iThemes Security again that all goes fine but when I enable it I get kicked straight back out again. There are no options in the dashboard to modify the settings so I’m screwed.

It doesn’t seem like it’s the Hide Backend setting that’s wrong here, it feels more like the ‘Away’ settings. I had mine set to block access in the early hours of the morning but it seems to be doing it 24/7 at the moment.

So now I have no security on one site and I’ll be leaving all my other sites on the old version for the time being.

FWIW perhaps the rebrand should have happened BEFORE the ground-up rewrite as you’ve now possibly catastrophically damaged your new brand.

    I have this same problem.
I delete the plugin, reinstall again, and at this time I still have access to admin.
As soon as I activate the plugin the problem appears.
If I need to share some logs or info additional, please let me know.
    Thanks
