I use the free version of iThemese Security and Sync. I tried to visit the iThmes.com site as I was about to purchase the PRO version. Unfortunately, iThemes doesn’t want more business.

I received a very generic message of:

This request has been denied for security reasons. If you believe this was in error, please contact support.

At first I thought it was because of me connecting through a VPN service (Private Internet Access). So, I disconnected from the service, checked to make sure y real IP was showing, and reloaded the page. I STILL got that message again.

If this is how iThemes Security Pro works, with false positives and a very generic and off putting message, then I believe I’ll save my money and look elsewhere. How in the heck are people supposed to “… contact support” as the message says if they can’t even access the website in the first place, which contains the contact information for the company/website?

As I run an online business, I don’t want to scare away potential customers with such false positives.

The odd thing is it changes. For example, after I got that error, I tried visiting ithemes.com about five minutes or so later and it loaded fine. Therefore, I’m guessing they have the ban time to be 5 minutes. I then clicked on another post in their forums and it brought that same error up again.

While I’m concerned about security of my sites, it’s not worth $150/year for their Pro (Developer) subscription (which includes BackupBuddy and iSycn) if I’m going to keep having to worry about whether I can access the ithemes.com website.

Actually, yes. Again. I was reading the info about iThemes Security Pro as it’s loading now. At the top clicked on “Exchange” to see what that plugin was about and error message again.

We wouldn’t be able to help you diagnose what the problem with iThemes security website since we work for Wordfence. However, if you are ready to step up your protection, you can visit us at wordfence.com where our contact info is clearly stated and readily available. We’d be happy to help you there. We’d also welcome the chance to tell you more but it is against the forum rules to discuss paid features here.

We look forward to protecting your site.
