This is my first negative review. Am disappointed with this plugin—such a nice idea for translating a website but with a big mistake. Every time you change text in a default language it erases the translation of this text on the front page. I change a lot of text on many pages and almost get a heart attack when I find out I delete a ton of translations. Very unprofessional. The plugin should at least warn you about that before you change a text. Memory function works on a string or two but not in most cases.
Do better please.

You don’t deserve a two-star review, but a five-star rating is also unwarranted. After reflecting on your response, I decided to adjust my rating; however, my opinion about your plugin remains unchanged. Losing days of work to correct translations is unacceptable. Your memory function is inadequate, as it only works with one or two strings. I encountered issues with 20 strings on a site, and searching the database for translations is tedious. Fortunately, I had a backup and resolved my problem that way, learning a valuable lesson about your plugin. In the future, it would be helpful to have an option to retain translations or at least a warning before editing text.

I understand your frustration, and I’m sorry for any inconvenience.
I searched for your ticket in our system but didn’t find it. If you had contacted us beforehand, we could have guided you in the editing process. We have also covered this topic on our FAQ page.
Any change of the original string will invalidate the front-end translation as they are directional.?This is how our plugin works because we save each translation in the database. Every string has a corresponding translation. If you change the original string, basically, you create a new string that will need to be translated.
To facilitate translation retrieval we implemented the Translation Memory* feature.
For example, if you have a string in your default language that is translated and you go in and modify that string, the translations for it won’t appear anymore at the front-end level but will continue to exist in _trp_* tables from your database. After, if you go to the translation interface and select that string, the Translation Memory feature will show you translation suggestions for that string (based on other strings that you have translated, even ones that don’t appear anymore in the front-end; so most likely, you will see the older translation as the first suggestion).
*The translation memory is approximate, based on what strings are in the database. It’s possible sometimes that doesn’t work 100%.However, we offer support now for editing in a way that if the changes on the original string do not exceed more than 5% of the entire string, the translations remain assigned to that string. This feature requires enabling the?Automatic Translation Memory?feature in TP Settings –> Advanced tab –> Miscellaneous options and is not applicable for?translation blocks?(in case those are edited, the translation is not kept).
We do appreciate your feedback, however giving the plugin a small grade should normally be reserved for plugins with no support, unresolved bugs, or not following WordPress standards. This is not the case for TranslatePress.
